Having a rebuilding year at Iowa

Thomas scored 7 points in the first 4 minutes against Bohannon and they had to switch him off of him. If you think Bohannon is doing fine defensively please explain to me why our AdjD is so bad. Bohannon is our worst defender by a large margin

Thomas is 6" taller and is a fully developed Sr. strength wise. It was foolish to even start Jordan on him, and Fran quickly switched him off Thomas.

Who else did anything vs Jordan the rest of the game???? Um, nobody did. You probably don't know this as you said you were at the game, and I'd bet you haven't been able to stomach watching the replay.

I actually watched the replay Tuesday night, it was more impressive on TV than in person I thought. Who do you think our worst defender is if it isn't Bohannon?

Easily Cook, It's not even close. Jok is a pretty close second, although he played pretty well vs ISU. He has the ability to defend, but ISU was the first game he made the effort to defend.

Good grief, 5656, give it a break. OK. You don't think JB can play defense. Thanks for your insight. Now, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. And, go find another team to bash.

And he actually seriously wonders why people all know he is a troll. He thinks if he says 2 nice things about Iowa in 6 months, he can point to that and say, see, see I'm a fan!!!!!!

I have had multiple posters tell me we are fine at the PG position but I'm the crazy one for disagreeing. Haha

Nope, you are a troll for bashing Jordan and CW non stop all the time. Wanna talk some more about defensive PER???? TROLOLOLOLOLO

Life would be better if we played cupcakes like ISU, Cal or Rutgers......doesn't mean the team is better, just that life would be better with a 8-2 cupcake record.

We lost on a neutral court to Memphis and let to Omaha at home. I wouldn't play the strength of schedule card if I were you

Good thing you aren't me then.

Iowa's best win vs RPI #91 team
Cal's best win vs RPI #94 team
ISU's best win vs RPI #81 team

We know Iowa is better than ISU and it is safe to say Cal would be more than likely 1-4 vs Iowa's top 5 opponents to date.

RPI is meaningless for at least another month

So is defensive PER, and really any PER that includes a defensive component......yet you still use it. So I will keep using RPI, it is the only metric that the NCAA tournament committee uses.

HAHA, LOL man. Most of the defensive metric center around "stops". They award things like blocks and rebounds. They skew toward big men for these reasons. They also skew toward teams with better OVERALL defense.

Most of the defensive metrics are junk, they are better for NBA, but almost totally worthless for the college basketball with so much difference in schedules, and the way defense is played at the college level.

There are problems with offensive PER as well, but not as deeply flawed as defensive PER is. Heck the guy that created PER, Hollinger freely admits that two of the defensive statistics it incorporates—blocks and steals (which was not tracked as an official stat until 1973)—can produce a distorted picture of a player's value and that PER is not a reliable measure of a player's defensive acumen.

I never said it's flawless I said it's not meaningless

I think it's normal for teams to half to rebuild especially if they lost a boat load of experience like Iowa did. I knew this would be an up and down year for Iowa because of all of the inexperienced and youth. I am hoping as these young guys play against B1G level competition that as they get on the last one third of the conference schedule they will start looking pretty sharp. My biggest concern will be for next year when Joc is gone. He is the engine on this team right now.
