I cannot think of one game where they made a critical call like a Dantonio or Miles to do a hook and ladder or a fake. I can think of several where the players bailed their butts out.
LMAO, those plays only exist in the very back of the Iowa playbook section called "The black hole". These plays are never touched of spoken of as our conservative coaches would never do something so mean to the other team as to call a fake play, its just not nice.
No. They haven't mastered basic adjustments as the the competition calls or basic clock management, let alone go out on a limb to trickerize their way to a victory.
If it don't come by the book them it don't come. Get used to it. "Almost" and "What could have been" are the peaks of Hawkeye football. If you have aspirations of a national title in your lifetime -- you're going to live a looong time
About the only "trick play" I can remember ever being called, and working, in the KF era is that I seem to remember them doing a fake FG from the 5 yard line or so against OSU in the shoe back in 2003, and got a TD out of it.
I thought the deep pass to DJK when everyone and their grandma was expecting a run showed some superior onions. Sorry it wasn't a statue of liberty. Honestly, we should have been able to beat Northwestern with about 10 plays. Their defense is brutal and we blew it. More flea-flickers was not the answer.
