Has the game passed Kirk by?

A thread like this usually pops up every year. Guys ... this is who we are and who we will be for as long as Kirk is the coach. In 12 years Kirk has pretty much played a vanilla offense and defense. It's who we are. The offense we run is not the problem. Execution is the problem. This is the same offense that beat Missouri, LSU, and Georgia Tech in bowl games. Our offense did okay today ... Our problem (at least after today) is the defense. Our offense will be just fine. Our dline is a major, major concern.

not trollin.
People don't want to hear it but just look at the scoreboards across this country.

This has been a gradual demise for quite some time, today stands out as did last bowl season. There will be more and they will happen more frequently until the B1G decides whether it wants to compete or stand on top of its pulpit screaming academics. They can't have both, that much has been proven now. So either do what's needed to compete or slowly but surely become more and more irrelevant.

I denied this for a couple of years, but it is glaringly obvious. Losing to Rice, ISU, NMSt, Ball St, struggling to beat Toledo, Fresno, getting pounded by a ND team that was beaten soundly by USF.

People don't want to hear it & they certainly don't want to believe it but its reality.

It doesn't make me less of a fan.
I just see what everyone outside of the midwest has seen for quite some time.

OSU is without a lot of players because of their pay for play, Nebby did end up winning by two TD's and the rest of the games mentioned non of those teams were B1G contenders in the first place.

Same type of comments I made for a couple of years.
I get it, I really do.

Not gonna push it on anyone, you'll see it in your own time.

It took some defense and luck to beat LSU and Missouri. Defense beat GT. Offense has been our problem for a long time, but now it looks like defense is a problem, too.

You see more and more teams going with some type of spread offense with a dual threat QB. We had one once with Brad Banks and look how well that turned out.

Kirk's play-not-to-lose philosophy and refusual to change just doesn't cut it anymore in college football.

Grow up ... that's all.

Simply listing these games as examples. There are plenty of other games we have won in the past few years that did not involve luck ... Personally, would love to see us open things up a bit ... Wanted to see more tosses to CJ, McNutt, etc. I do think we are easy to defend because teams know what we are going to run since we have been running the same system for 12 years ... My point being ... as long as Kirk's here this is how things will be ...

Good grief, are we really at the point as a fanbase where we have become no better than Nebraska fan? There are going to be rebuilding years at Iowa. This year is one of those on defense...if they dont tweak a few things on offense when teams roll 8 man run blitzes at them, then the talent on that side of the ball won't matter.

But Kirk just finished the third best three year run in Iowa football history, and the winningest decade in Iowa history.

This stuff is glue sniffing crazy.

We need to mix it up Homer...

How many freeeeeekin times has Norm bailed out Ken???

Vandy needs to pass the ball at the 5yd line. Everyone knows MC will get the ball!!

3 and a cloud of dust, without moving the chains, is a wasted series.

Well, I'm glad that it's just the glue I'm sniffing making me think Iowa has lost to ISU 7 times under Ferentz.

And don't give me this crap about 'tweaking' the offense. The offense, as it is most years, will do just enough to keep us in games, but rarely enough to actually win them on their own.

National title? LOL. Outside of the 1985 team, this team has not had nowhere near the talent on the field/on the sideline to play in a game of this magnitude. And don't throw the 2002 nonsense at me because USC threw KF's best team all over the field & they were not the best team that year either. Under this staff, this team will never sniff a game of that magnitude. From our recruiting to scheduling to offensive philosophies to personnel decisions to coaching hires, there is only one word to explain all of them....CONSERVATIVE!

This moronic thread is the exact reason I usually don't drop by boards after we lose. Seriously the number of Iowa fans that are totally clueless when it comes to anything relating to football is absolutely amazing to me. We are a very YOUNG team and there was a reason why most analysts were predicting a middle of the road year. A ton of programs would fire their coach tomorrow for a shot to have KF as their Head Coach, and that includes NFL teams as well.

You are the one who is clueless about football. You act as though these losses are rare in nature for this coach. Shonn Green's senior year we should have been in the BCS and instead lost a bunch of games we shouldn't have in the 4th quarter. Last year the same thing. Now we were lucky to get to overtime against a cellar dweller. Wake up, KF is the most overrated coach in the NCAA.

You want some evidence that in-game coaching is the problem?Take a look at all the players we put in the NFL from last year's team. Then ask yourself how with that much talent, we went 7-5 in the 2010 regular season.

If you weren't in diapers in 97 and old enough to remember how did that year turn out with all the NFL talent on that roster?

The ball sometime bounces the wrong way. get over it.

Keep Kirk on as head coach to recruit, coach in practice, develop talent.....find a second head coach to take over on game day and decide when to run the two minute offense, when to call timeouts, when to spike the ball, etc.

Well, if nobody else steps up on defense this year, it could be even worse next year with all the guys we lose again, as you know.

Shonn Greene skipped his senior year and we went Orange Bowling. Had he not skipped it, we might have been Rose Bowling. I doubt the Hawks will ever see a Rose Bowl again within my lifetime.

You serious? You guys are and have been on par with those wacko's for years. Jebus Miller your black and gold blindness know's no bounds.

C'mon Jon....you can't be happy with the disturbing trend of 4th quarter collapses...Kirk's losing record to Iowa State...the dominance Northwestern has over us...the DEMONSTRATED poor clock management...the decisions not to try to win the game in regulation against Ohio State in '09 and Iowa State yesterday....? The list goes on.

I understand there are "down" years...but Kirk's refusal to go for the win at the end of regulation yesterday and not going for it on 4th and 1 in the third OT are inexcuseable IMO. Bielema wouldn't have done that....Rhodes wouldn't have....and neither would a great number of college football coaches.

We are the youngest team in the B1G. That said, I don't Fn care! We can win with what we have and we will. Even if he does **** me off sometimes... Kirk will get it done.

This thread is retarded...
why did I just post here?

Jon - cut the BS with this argument. I don't think that any coaches need to be fired or that we need mass changes, but the idea that we willl have rebuilding years at Iowa is ridiculous. We pay a coaching staff like they are winning national titles every year (when they will NEVER win one) to avoid rebuilding years.

We are supposed to have ups and downs, but we are not a young team. The D Line has THREE SENIORS ON IT. We have upper classmen at WR, TE, OL and QB. We have upper classmen in half the secondary.

THIS IS THE PROBLEM!!!!!

If the only time we are going to be good is because a player comes out of nowhere (Shonn Greene) or dumb luck (09) or dumb bad luck (last year was still a good team) than we have a problem.

There is NO EXCUSE for Iowa to rebuiild. EVER.
