Harty: Is Fran still the man with the plan?

Mr. Davis sure had some nice things to say about Hoiberg. On Murph &Andy. Wonder what he really thinks of coach because he seemed to dodge any direct praise when asked about the Iowa program. like it or not The Dr .Tom yrs. is where the measuring stick lies with many fans.

Jon or someone else can quote Dr T's Big Ten record but I believe it was very close to .500, especially after you throw out the Raveling recruits in his first couple of years. Is that not what Fran has delivered the past two seasons? Somehow Dr T's Big Ten record is remembered as .750 clip now.

I would also wager that we would have played in a few more NIT's rather than NCAA's given our typical weak non-con schedule which included the cream puff city Hawkeye Challenge. The landscape has changed regarding the scrutiny of scheduling and no longer is 20 wins and a .500 conference record alone a lock for the tourney.

125-105. Average finish was 4.7th place, and 10-8 Big Ten record.

Let's keep this simple: Get to the dance and have the team prepared to play in the dance, that is what Mr. Davis did even after Ravelings players left. Yes the landscape has changed but that is where the bar is set in my mind and with the facilities upgrades ect. there is no reason Iowa should not rise to mediocrity again. The 2 previous coaches failed to do this, one was using the program to learn on the job and trying to get by on his namesake while the other came close to putting peach baskets up in CHA. The program seems close but the way they fell apart in the second half of the season has to worry some fans, lets hope it was a fluke or a bad combination of players and not the coaching staff.

It would shock me if Davis had anything negative to say about anyone to the media. I'd rather have the current coaching staff, but Davis could really put a team together. It was reported that he just recently got a hole in one in golf. I'm glad he is able to enjoy his life in retirement.
