Harrison Barnes to decide today

Harrison is a very smart kid. Recently read an article about him in The Atlantic. Sounds like a very good head on his shoulders. He is very interested in business and is simply not a jock ... I do think he moves forward for the NBA ... because as he mentioned in the article, the NBA will help provide him some of the resources he needs to be successful at business when his playing days are all done ... Good kid here ... I wish him well ...

Rumors out of Bloomington is that IU's Christian Watford is also coming into the draft this year.

No doubt the uncertainty of the lockout had a huge impact on those sophmores sticking in college an extra year. Now, with the CBA geared toward rewarding players more the quicker they get to their second contract ....look for no hesitation among the elite frosh in college ball. Kentucky will lose Davis,Gilchrist,Teague, along with Jones and Lamb. IU may lose Zeller, who is slotted as high as 7th in some mock drafts. It is going to be about the deepest draft in the last decade.

Barnes should come out,and prove all the naysayers wrong. His game is well-suited for the NBA,cus he can shoot the rock from the arc with great size for his position.

That could make 2 bball players out of Iowa - Barnes and White to, IMO, prematurely declare for the NBA.

Good luck to both of them in the NBA. Without a consistant jump shot, both will need lots of it.

EDIT: How much influence does a coach have if a player's mind is made up?

2ND EDIT: Is it better to float in the medicority of the NBA for let's say 5 years than stay in school, become a better player, consequently stay in the NBA longer, and get an education?

Wow, just wow....it right now would be stupid for him to come for his Jr year...

Wonder if the Tarheels will be rated preseason Number One.....

Losing Barnes, Henson and Marshall should lower expectations for fervent fans.....

Of course, UNC, as elites do, simply recruit high school All Americans who can play immediately, ala Kentucky......

Wonder if the fans are becoming discouraged with Roy WIlliams, he has only won two national championships lately......

Harrison made the right choice, no doubt in my mind.....

For a guaranteed lottery pick like Barnes it is unlikely that he would "float in mediocrity for 5 years". I don't see Barnes getting much better by staying in college one more year. Unlike someone like a Daniel Orton out of Kentucky a couple of years ago, Barnes has NBA ready talent right now.

Also, is there any factual evidence that NBA players who stayed in college longer have longer NBA careers?

Harrison is not a guranteed lottery pick. Hansen's column in today's Register quoted an NBA scout as saying he could go anywhere from 10th to 20th in first round. If he stayed with Ole Roy for another year, he'd probably be a second rounder. His development at UNC has to be considered very disappointing. I wish him well in the NBA but he does have a long way to go to be a solid starter let alone an NBA All Star.

Well, at least Paige will get plenty of playing time next year. Didn't think Marshall was good enough to go this year, but oh well.

A guy who leaves after his sophomore year to go to the NBA is the biggest disappointment in UNC history?

Agree. Hoiberg would have hooked him.

On a side note anybody remember his announcement press conference? He specifically made a plea to invite the people of Ames to come so they showed up and packed the gym. However most of those people read too much into the invite as they thought Barnes was going to announce ISU. When Ol' Roy popped up on the screen via Skype needless to say, most of the audience was quite ******.

I've always respected Barnes for that. A little planned kick in the nuts to ISU fans. Hard not to like the guy.

UNC will still have Bullock,Hairston,McAdoo to go with Paige. They will be in the tourny again, count on it.
