Hansen commentary: Coker case shows university a closed society

I have actually done work with the athletic department and I must say that they have become very difficult to work with. I think they have become full of them selfs and have a minor God complex at this point.

Just my opinion after trying to do business with them. I took aways with the feeling that they will and can do anything they want. I personally do not agree with not giving answers, but they don't have to. I feel since they are a public institution and that information should be given out.

What type of business?

Doing business with U of I in general isn't the most pleasant experience. I liaised with them on a couple projects between my parents business and another business on some remodeling projects back around 2000 sometime. I've heard this from various other sources that say they have done business with them, and I've heard it from other contractors that I know for certain have done business with them.

But in fairness to the situation...I don't think it has anything to do with this particular incident other than at the end of the day, either way, you're dealing with bureaucrats, not business people. That's always a pain whether it's the University, or some city, county or state agency.

FERPA is very similar to HIPAA, which deals with privacy of medical information. The general public has no right to know the details of this case just as anyone on this board has no right to know the medical condition of someone at UIHC unless they're a family member or direct care giver.

Hansen is way off base here. The University is doing the right thing.

Shut up!!!!

Well... after reading through the entire thread what it really
boils down to is this...

There were four persons/entities involved in this situation.
1. UI 2. Law enforcement authorities 3. Coker 4. The girl.

Everything seems to have been resolved to the satisfaction of
all interested parties so... seriously... it's none of anyone else's
business.
