Hampton, Robinson, Johnson, Paki, Coker

These guys have been practicing all week and will be at the next practice. Coker is probably doing some sort of cardio work too with his injury.

Let's start talking about these guys. They've been here working hard in the heat.

Who'd you see on their moped, anyway?

Paki is like the Jess Settles of Iowa f-ball. He seems to be on the 8 yr plan. He must work his butt off. Glad to have him.

They should be working hard because it's still not known if Wegher will be back or not.

Seriously, lay off the guy. We know you're no fan of Wegher's. But there's no need for thinly veiled swipes at him.

I'm not sure but do you not like Wegher?? I forgot

I will bite... I think Hampton is going to break out... he looked quick the little bit I saw of him in spring ball, however he was not being hit. A-Rob will be dependable if called upon... I am willing to bet we see Coker or Johnson play this year. Probably not both... but I could see one of them coming in and getting some reps early on in the year... JUST IN CASE (as we are pretty much aware that Paki is not the answer... great Hawkeye, good special teams guy, not so good running back.

As for the un-mentioned running back... I could see KF giving him a redshirt year to get his head straight. Not saying it will happen, but I think it would be good to back off of the kid.. he is a 19 year old kid who apparently has a lot going on in his personal life. I was a screwed up 19 year old college kid.. and I didn't have anything close to what he is rumored to be dealing with. Just saying.. it is a very emotional period to be away from home and taking responsibility for yourself... sometimes you get off track... it appears that he got back on track fast, and I wish the best for him.

Please rs either Coker or Johnson ...

hoping its Coker as that kid will be a beast but we need to think long term
as we have plenty of depth and suprised Rogers is not mentioned

anyone know his status?

I'm no longer in favor of redshirting freshmen running backs. Just too many injuries at the position, in addition to all the other reasons that players leave (academics, homesick, family problems, legal issues, disputes with coaching staff, etc) that Iowa seems to have a lot of.

If Coker can get healthy enough to practice the week of the EIU game, play him in that game (if only a few snaps). I believe they will play DeAndre Johnson (given Hampton suspension and Wegher not around).

If a freshmen back can be healthy and productive enough to help in even one game, I say play them. In the Ferentz era, the percentage of scholarship running backs who play at Iowa as a 5th year senior is low (not counting former walk-ons like Paki).

A player can still play after being redshirted. He just loses the redshirt. So I would say redshirt one of them, then if the situation arises where he is needed, then take it off and play him. No point burning a year of eligibility for 10-20 carries on the year (which I think would be a pretty generous helping) for both guys. If Wegher is back, those numbers take hit. Keep one or redshirt both. That would space these guys out some anyway, and that would be kind of nice.

I think Hampton will become the main back with Robinson & Wegher (if he's back) only being used to give Jewell a brief rest.

Paki will be primarily special teams or if BW isn't back he may see a few plays for pass protection.

I think Jewell will end up being just about as good as Greene. I'm serious.

Injuries could rearrange everything I just stated.

I think TMRUPH is on track. At best I am thinking BW is out for at least a few weeks. I think with Coker dinged up we have to use both D Johnson and M Coker. I think both will see time

I too think Hampton will be nice but will likely get dinged up at least a couple times. We have learned before you have to be more the a couple backs deep.
