Hampton, Robinson, Johnson, Paki, Coker

yep.

From watching him in 08, I think he may be "nearly" as good as Greene.

Different style than Greene. Reminds me of Tavian.

Reminds you of Tavian? Banks was the most elusive, make you miss, RB Iowa has had in a long time, but he did not run through or break tackles. Hampton runs to contact and breaks tackles. Hampton runs far closer to Greene, one-cut downhill runner that can explode into a defender.

I've not seen enough Iowa football to have too many guys to compare Hampton. Greene fits the best out of the guys I've seen. But Jewell makes me think of Maurice Jones-Drew. He's not the biggest guy (as far as height goes), but he's stocky and runs angry, with the ability make a guy miss, run them over, or just outrun them. They both run angry, and both are good receivers.

Hampton certainly is not a Tavian Banks-style runner. Not taking anything away from Hampton, but watching Tavian was just beautiful. Very fluid, extra gear, ran around people not through them. From what I remember of Hampton as a Freshman is he took people on head-on. More of a north/south running style.

Hampton is unlike many other Iowa Rbs I've seen (since 80')
He has a burst, a second gear and a nasty streak to take big defenders head on (see Outback Bowl in 08')
He's a strong runner and I expect great things from him if he can stay healthy.

After reading this thread I went out got my Hampton heisman t shirts made. Lots of kool aid being consumed on this warm summer day

This is my post from another thread re Jewel. And I stand by it.

If you get the chance, watch some highlights from his frosh season. I was shocked how quick and explosive he looked then. If this OL can open some holes, Jewel could do some special things. I try not to make statements like this, but I'll say now Jewel can be better than Clay and Royster this season. Obviously all 3 are different types of backs and their success is largely dependent on their OLs, but Jewel's burst definitely isn't something you see from Clay, and I just think he is more explosive than Royster. And I like Royster's skills a lot, but I think Jewel is very comparable, just w/ more burst and quicker feet.

As for Coker and Johnson, I'd love to have them both RS, but the poster that commented Iowa doesn't usually tend to keep RB's around has a good point. Of the guys I played w/ in college, RB's had the toughest transition from HS mentally - they have a tough time going from being the BMOC to not playing, and many just don't deal w/ it well. I think as it stands now, Coker is likely to RS, but it sounds as if Johnson has been holding his own. I say for EIU it's A-Rob, Paki, Johnson, Rogers. And I think Paki will do better this year than last year, and he's still much better than what Brownlee was.

If I had to compare Hampton to anyone in the NFL i would have to say Clinton Portis. I know Portis is a little more shifty and strays from contact a little more, but that's only because you have to do that in the NFL. Body style wise and as far as size and speed, i'd have to say Portis...

But make no mistake, this WILL be a break out year for Jewel, people forget how good he actually is because it's been a while, but he's an angry back who has good fundamentals, and im usually pretty good at calling running backs...
