Half Full or Half Empty?

I hope Fran does not settle on his 2011 class just becasue Kravish and Fant decided to go else where. Neither is a program changer and the Hawkeyes only lose one senior this year in Cole.

I hope we dont panic just to fill our schollies like Lick did and bring in kids that cant compete in the Big Ten. Good new is that Woodbury, Gessell, and Paige can see imediate playing time their freshman year.

I would love for the Hawks to get Harris, but either way we will have Gatens, May, Baasbe, Payne, Brommer, cartwright, McCabe, Marble, for the next 2 years! Cole this year and josh and aaron next year.

Spank I would love to read your thoughts on this!

And exactly why would they want to come to a program that might only see the NCAA's once or maybe twice while they are here when they could go to top programs in the country? They won't end up at Iowa and I don't blame them.

My mindset was that this year was a throwaway year, but next year, we could jump up the ladder in the league with all the upperclassmen in the league going away after this season.
To make next season impactful,I thought Iowa would need a couple of immediate contributor type recruits....now, I like Oglesby and White but they do not seem physically prepared to be immediate impact guys. I was hoping for Fant cus he looks Big Ten ready physically. Oh well.

I agree that Fran should not reach too far to fill schollys this year, but I would not mind grabbing a Reggie Evans type juco recruit in the spring to help us replace Jarryd Cole and Aaron Fuller. But, please no more guys who are not offered by anyone but Wis-Green Bay like Tucker and Brommer.

I am convinced that Fran is locked in at Iowa for 5 years minimum,so he can actually do a five year program approach, which would mean that next years class is the one that probably needs to get him over the hump. Make that class top 20, and suffer thru a couple more tough years, then make a real run for a couple of years...and Fran will be good for more than a decade.

I don't think Fran is going to panic. He's rebuilt several teams already, he knows it's a long process and not done overnight. Lick really was never in that situation before Iowa. He took over a pretty good Butler team when Matta left. I trust that Fran will get us turned around.

You are getting very tiresome with your constant negativity.
Why do recruits ever go anywhere but to winners?
OSU was down when Matta came to town...why did Oden,Cook,Lighty and Conley go to OSU when they had not been to the tourny for 3 years?
Why did Battle go to PSU,they have not been to the tourny in ages.
Why did Ralph Sampson jr, and Colt Iverson go to Minny, who had 1 winning season in 8 years?

Are you a fan? Do you understand about growing up a fan of a school?
That is why Oglesby chose Iowa and that is probably why Woodbury and Gesell will choose Iowa...and Paige, possibly.

Definitely not any time to panic. The Gant news is nothing shocking. Everyone in the Bowling Green area was sure he'd pick WKU. Seeing how late Iowa came in, it's no surprise. Losing Kravish to CAL doesn't surprise me either - the Golden Bears won the PAC10 (albeit a weak conf), and won 24 games last year. I can see why he'd want to head out there.

There are a couple flyers out there for recruits that Iowa is still trying to get.

One thing is for certain, Iowa needs a big in this 2011 class. It's a must. Whether the big is 6'7" or 7'0", Iowa needs someone to fill the PF or C spot.

Fran will get more wiggling room than Todd did, esp considering if he fails Barta is gone. So in all likelihood, both would have to be removed. That will give Fran more time. The practice facility will help, any sort of improvement on court will help. Win and the recruits will come, but you have to have the recruits to win. It's sort of like trying to land a job that requires experience, but you don't have experience because you can't land a job.

Regardless, we are far from panictime for the 2011 class. Iowa's staff has only been in place roughly 1/2 a year, they are just getting started.

Woodbury will likely be a Hawk.

Well said. Couldn't agree more. No need to shut down the program just because we are bad right now. Hayden Fry pulled the football program out of the abyss, and most seem to think that football programs are even more difficult to rebuild. If we have the right coach, we will be fine. Time will tell if Fran is the man, but I've got his back.

THAT SAID.. It would be nice to be able to land some of these better players. I'm not saying the 5-star guys, but we need to get some playmakers. It seems like we're having trouble getting commits from anybody who isn't from Iowa, or isn't lightly-recruited.

I guess that means we'll need to clean up in-state and get ourselves back to respectability that way, and there are targets for us to go after. I sure hope Fran can lock up some more of these guys.

Woodbury will likely be a Hawk.

I wish he would commit early and get the ball rolling. Didn't Horner commit when he was a sophomore or something? Another good thing about him committing early is that he could start talking to Gessel and Paige about joining him like Christensen did that one year we had all those FB recruits.

Stormin, what are your feelings on Gessel and Paige committing to Iowa?

Coach has been here before, he will not nor is he panicing about a recruit that goes where he was expected to go...patience Hawk fans, patience!

As of right now, it is half-empty. Three 2 stars, and Two 3 stars in the first two recruiting classes puts Fran smack dab in the middle of all the new hire BCS conference coaches hired in the last 6 years that have been unsuccessful in turning their program around.

There is time to pull a rabbit out of a hat and get a late add. I would suggest lurking around the recruits and young players of embattled coaches who might not be around at the end of the next season if they can't grab someone before the Spring signing period.

But the stats indicate this player has to be at least a 3 star type and then FM has to hit an absolute home run with the next class.

How many 3*s did he have at Siena? He needs players that are going to buy into his system and want to be a Hawkeye. His team has not even played a game yet, give me a break!

Some of you are like broken records...well instead of whining or lamenting how much trouble we are in before Fran's team has even taken the floor...just give me break...geez

I totally agree with Nebby and Storm on this one. The guy has a great staff let's just be patient. At least let him coach a few games before pronouncing his death.

What are these stats you are talking about??

Never mind, I was joking, we have heard it hear like a million times....
