Guys, who is in the mood for some fun? Let's guess who we get in Feb.

Would love to get both of these guys. They're getting some serious attention due to the late period, with offers like Oregon, Nebraska, TCU, etc.

Hopefully they had a good enough time on their visit to put us in the lead.

I’m not sure we have a confirmed visit with Lockhart yet, we were fighting for one of the last spots (that tweet is a good sign I guess).

We certainly have a lot to sell a potential corner with our recent run. Getting DJ James on the heels of the Brents & DJ Johnson class would be amazing. Our cornerback group would be looking awesome for several years, not to mention we’ve landed some pretty good looking safety prospects in the last two classes.

The grad transfer DT prospect out of Rice is very intriguing as well for depth and an insurance policy for Nixon. Part of me wonders if Brady Reiff can play some at DE next year on early downs to get AJE and Golston some breathers. Reiff is similar size to Hesse.

Being that it’s the late cycle all these guys have tons of interest so I don’t know what to expect.

The Reiff thing is interesting, though idk if he's got a similar athleticism to Parker. The grad transfer is curious as well, as he does seem like a force against the run, but I've noticed there's a distinct lack of pass-rushing in his resume. I'm not sure whether or not this is schemed or indicative of his ability, but it's not a major issue.

I think we sit better with James than most realize. We offered him shortly before the bowl game, proceeded to beat the team he is committed (though it seems this is pretty flimsy) to while showing strong pass defense, have a visit scheduled for him on the 25th, on top of him showing love on Twitter.

If you watch that DT’s video he gets pretty good penetration. DT’s don’t get a lot of sacks usually unless they are Aaron Donald. He would be a “big” add for depth at the very least but again quite a few players involved.

I have no doubt DJ James is the best player of the 3. Rivals and 247 are both showing he has or had a Bama offer. They also show Florida as an offer. They say you gotta make hay when the sun shines and it appears our staff is doing that after all the success that Des King and Josh Jackson had here. I had this class in the B/ B+ range, very solid. If we add James I’d start thinking about moving this class up closer to that A- level.

Lastly the DE depth is a bit of a concern going into 2020 assuming AJE leaves. Haven’t heard much about Brandon Simon. Waggoner I assume will be a good one once he puts on the weight. I’ve heard some rumors that Jack Cambell might be an option to slide down to DE. At 6’4 he’s certainly got the height assuming he can put on the weight. It will be interesting to see, but in my opinion Defensive line is the most important position group to make the defense go.

Hesse 6-3 261
Reiff 6-3 272
I say drop a dozen pounds and let him play DE. When he's been in the game he's played well.

The toughest part of this time of year is that it's a sellers market, kind of like the late period in basketball. There are fewer quality guys available and more teams with needs after transfers and NFL departures.

I'm not saying Iowa won't land any of these top targets, but it's going to be tough because of more competition. Zach Abercrumbia will be especially tough to grab. Some of the blue bloods like Michigan, Notre Dame and Texas are starting to come in.

Agreed. Getting the visit is a good first step. We got visits for Abercrumbia and DJ James, assuming they don’t commit elsewhere before they get here.

Haven’t heard if we got a visit with Lockhart.

Honestly even getting one of these guys Is going to be tough but would be a nice way to close out this class.

Also on Abercrumbia, he needs to finish the spring semester before graduating. I’m told he’s not in a hurry to commit and will take 5 officials. He really could wait until into the spring to decide as a graduate transfer.

Abercrumbia - which power program can best display his NFL stock and do it soon? Seems like we would have a decent chance to do that but also read somewhere earlier that he wants to try to stay close to home (Dallas).

It appears the staff is going after a grad transfer that would be most helpful

Sleep-Dalton has been ASU"s starting punter for the past two seasons, averaging 43.8 yards in 2018 (No. 23 nationally) and placing 19 punts inside the 20-yard line. The Australian redshirted in 2016 after playing a season at City College of San Francisco.

In light of recent developments we sure could use him. When looking at all we are losing, at first I was like, whoa, that's crazy. But with college free agency (introduced recently) the rules have changed and RH just posted an article illustrating this. So already fluid rosters will be getting more fluid. 11 scholarship players are already gone from the 2016 class and 8 are gone from the 2017 class.

"The right fit", for those who thought that meant died-in-the-wool Hawkeyes, well . . .

It appears the staff anticipated this situation because look at the 2018 walk-on class.

This doesn't include Anderson and Dinsdale, a pair of IWCC walk-ons. In practical terms, the walk-on class was the same size as the scholarship class. I have a feeling from now on we'll be averaging 24 scholarship players per year and bringing in the same number of walk-ons as well.

DJ is gone, anyone got anything on Lockhart?

Reading RHs article looks like he'll be a Hawkeye.:)

I have to say the amount of LBs we have pursued and landed in recent years makes me question if Iowa is making the switch to a base 4-2-5. Niemann and Colbert got big time PT this year as underclassmen. In 2018 we brought in McDonald and Doyle and a couple others. This year we have Jestin Jacobs, Campbell, Jeudy, and are now pursuing others.

As to you mentioned yesterday Campbell and potentially Doyle could slide down to end, but that’s still a glutton of LBs who would be fighting over 2 spots on the majority of downs if we were going to the 4-2-5.

My guess fwiw is that Iowa sticks with a base 4-3 on early downs while still being multiple and employing 4-2-5 or nickel type looks on passing downs or against spread looks.
