GT fans at the airport

I ran into one guy in the coffee line at the Ft Lauderdale airport that said something like, "Good game...it's too bad we didn't show up. That's the worst we've played all year". I kinda shook my head and let him know we hear those comments a lot.

Moments later I hear some GT fan talking on his blue tooth how he'd seen Iowa play a bunch this year and that was by FAR the best Iowa played all year and by FAR the worst GT played all year "and we still almost beat them" he said.

Great game, great time. GT fans were few and far between and seemed fairly quiet to me. Iowa fans were clearly having a better time before, during and after. Just wanted to share the little interaction I had with them.

That game should have never been that close. It was a complete physical domination!!!

My friends and I were sandwiched between GT fans in the lower level. The guys behind us were fun and mouthing back to us, but didn't know anything about their team. We asked them who their stud DL was and they didnt know. We asked them who their best receiver was and they didnt know.

The group in front of us I tried everything in my book of (playful) trash talk and I couldnt even get a glance or a laugh from them

At our tailgate the group of GT'ers next to us laughed at us for wearing more than one piece of Iowa clothing. Apparently you just dont do that...

Overall the GT fans were friendly but I found most of them didn't know anything about their team. The one quote that stuck in my mind when asking about fan support was "We can't even sell out our own home games, you think anyone will show up here?"

You know its kinda funny. As I read the crying of GT fans it reminds me of back when Kevin Boyle played BB. Every game the announcers would say that the other teams stud was having an off nite...hmm. Didn't we hear that Clark at PSU had another bad game against us?? Some just can't/won't figure it out..

Any knowledgeable football fan that watched the Orange Bowl will tell you that Iowa DOMINATED both sides of the ball and should have won by at least 14 points. GTech may have played bad but anyone will tell you that the Iowa defense FORCED GTech into that bad play. Iowa manhandled all aspects of the game, GTech fans are like everyone else, just looking for excuses not to give Iowa credit......

GT didn't show up, because Iowa shut them down. Iowa's bowl prep is probably up there with any team in the country. Maybe Johnson will learn like Kirk did in 02-03 on how to prepare.

Why is it fair to say that we should have won by X number of points yet GT fans that claim their team didn't show up are mocked? The game is what it is.

Just got back... I didn't see many GT fans... Fun to watch us take over Miami. See everyone in AZ next year?

Anyone who can be even the least bit objective can look at that game and see that Iowa dominated the LOS. They were the better team.

Most of the GT fans I met where pretty classy. Two of my favorite quotes from them "Sorry neither or team or our fans showed up"
GT fan "Why don't you guys have a pro team"
Me, "we only have 3 million people in the whole state"
GT "Dude, look how many people are here, you would have no problem supporting a pro team"

The IOWA HAWKEYES are our Pro team....NFL, NBA, MLB......I'd consider our fans to be some of the best college or pro.

That is basically what I told him, I also was talking to another GT guy - who said he used to think the South and SEC was the king of tailgating and football craziness, but after this game he was going to have to reconsider that.

I hope Iowa never gets a pro team. Yuck. A lack of pro teams is what makes our fan bases (all of 'em - Iowa, ISU, UNI, Wartburg, Loras, etc) so special.
