Greg McDermott?

Lick had more success at the mid-major level than Mac, at least in terms of going deeper into the Big Dance. Lick made it to the Sweet 16, Mac never made it past the first round. I haven't seen Mac do a single thing at ISU to make anyone think he would be on anyone's hire list.

My question is, when does Pollard get the axe? Sure, he's a great used car salesman as he continues to make Clone fans believe they're going to the top every 8-18 months, but here's an AD who's already hired 2 Wrestling coaches, 2 Football coaches and soon, 2 Men's Basketball coaches...at what point do Clone fans realize...oh wait, nevermind...they seem to accept eating bullsh!t and being told it's filet mignon...

Agreed - ive been saying this for a couple years now. Pollard has yet to make a good hire. Rhoades may work out but its early.

I like Rhoads...but while Iowa State may be his "dream job" right now, if he puts together a couple of more good seasons, who's to say his dream job isn't back in the SEC for double or triple the money and the Clones are back to square 1...again.

I don't know, I think Rhoads is there for the long haul. He's from Ankeny, he coached under McCarney when the Clones were really bad, and he genuinely seems to want to be here, unlike his predecessor.

If there is one thing Iowans do well it's pick out phonies and posers, and Rhoads is everything that Chizik was not.

If Lickliter doesn't work out, Iowa basketball needs to find it's Paul Rhoads.

I think he and his family are firmly entrenched in Ames.;)

I dunno...that phony Chizik seemed to have everyone fooled for a while.

And I'm not saying Rhoads is being phony or a poser, but Iowa's not the only place he's coached and if a bigger program, easier to recruit to, for 2-3x the money comes calling...I'm not saying Rhoads WOULD leave, just that it would be hard to match the dollars to keep him if the scenario arises.

It's a little early for predictions but looking at their schedule next year I'm going to stick my neck out and say 4-8. I know he is damn proud to be their head coach but we are a few years away from this discussion. I do think they learned a lesson with the whole Mac debacle though. This guy basically is Mac so I would think if he does a good job they will try to keep him.

I hear ya Shane, but it just seems to me that Rhoads is the type of guy who will appreciate that ISU gave him the chance to be a head coach for the first time.

ISU would have a hard time matching a big offer, no doubt about it.
