Greg Davis was a terrible hire

Ferentz hired him (since this post is just you attempting to deflect blame from Ferentz) and historically Ferentz teams have lacked offense.

I said Ferentz was responsible, *******. I'm not trying to deflect blame. This offense is a lot different than what OKeefe did. Just because they both underperformed doesn't mean they're both secretly Ferentz's system. I blamed Ferentz for the hire. I dont buy this idea that Greg Davis is powerless to Ferentz's whims. You hate Kirk, we get it.

I remember when you were telling everyone to quit complaining when we only had 6 pts.

I don't hate kirk - his time is has just come and gone is all. It happened to Hayden also.

I remember you too, clogging up the thread with over the top negativity when the score was 6-0 hawks.

oh ya it was just me saying we didn't have enough pts - and I think I posted like twice on that. And there were about 30 other posters posting the same thing.

Got me there.

don't take it personal or anything but you were wrong - you were acting like everything was fine.

We all knew not taking advantage of that early field position would later doom us.

It killed us and eventually our defense wore down mentally and physically.

The only difference is the design of the wr routes.

They both were/are totally centered around the zone stretch play and the bootleg and play action off it.

Thats ferentz baby.

The fact that everything has to center on that and only that, with little to no variation in running play, is clearly on ferentz.

Davis has simply taken the same thing okeffe had to work with and put his own crappy horizontal passing game with it.

It's not Davis just like it wasn't Okeefe.

Yeah yeah yeah I know all of it falls on ferentz. It's whoever you don't care for. I can't stand Greg Davis just like you don't like ferentz. If it's ferentz I don't know why we have a Greg Davis. Why doesn't ferentz call the plays.

It's not about likes or dislikes its just logic - everyone complained about Okeefe because the offense was bad.

Now we have a different OC and guess what same thing again.

It's not the offensive coordinators.

I guess you've got all the only logical answers . What court do you preside over. Federal!

I think its a combo of KF's ball control philosophy coupled with Davis' inability to execute his style with the current roster. It was pointed out in another thread it probably is a bad marriage between Davis and Iowa because we will never be able to consistently land the type of talent needed to execute his style of offense. You need speed and athleticism in his scheme. While O'Keefe followed KF's philosophy amd focused on ball control and execution. I keep trying to see positive with Davis, but it's hard.

A lot of solid points in this thread. What it all comes down to, as I see it, is the inability (no, I don't think it's just stubborness) to adjust an offense according the talents of the players on hand. It's not that Ferentz's favorite brand of offense can't work. I absolutely can...and has...and can again. Iowa has had some great ball-control, power running teams. Wisconsin is on a 4 year streak of fielding such teams.

The issue is that whenever we've lacked the players to make it go, which is the currently the case, we still trot it out onto the field and just try to will it to success. Not gonna happen. And we're not talking about installing a new offense every year. It's just a matter of degrees, a sliding scale.

It's no surprise that we can't adjust in game because we don't even adjust between seasons.

I think your points here are valid about what each OC brings in terms of philosophy.

What you really need to do is spend some time pouring over the offensive numbers under KF. When you do that look at the numbers in two ways; overall rankings and rankings within B1G games only. What you will find is many, many poor offensive teams especially in league play. I like league play only because all teams end up padding overall numbers against some non-con patsies. League play levels the comparison more. I think folks will realize we have had issues for some time and the idea that we are a strong running team behind great o-lines is not true.

Plays getting in slow, a strict short passing playbook, a regressing QB, and a offense that doesn't fit the players Iowa has.

The only reason he had success at Texas was because of the athletes they were able recruit. Iowa will never get those type of player.

Finally, the playcalling was awful today late in the 4th quarter. That alone is grounds for being run out of town.

There was a reason why Greg Davis was fired, and nobody else wanted him. He would have never been hired had Iowa not done it. He's terrible. Ask any Texas fan.

Blaming GD for why we suck is like blaming Spiro Agnew for why Nixon had to leave office. We already went through this with KOK and look where it got us.
