Greg Davis was a terrible hire

Plays getting in slow, a strict short passing playbook, a regressing QB, and a offense that doesn't fit the players Iowa has.

The only reason he had success at Texas was because of the athletes they were able recruit. Iowa will never get those type of player.

Finally, the playcalling was awful today late in the 4th quarter. That alone is grounds for being run out of town.

There was a reason why Greg Davis was fired, and nobody else wanted him. He would have never been hired had Iowa not done it. He's terrible. Ask any Texas fan.

Yeah why hire an up and comer with original thoughts? Hire a dip **** that got fired from a loaded school with 3rd string better then our starters.

Is this really an o-coordinator issue? This offense looks more and more like the previous offense. Under KF if you actually look at our offensive rankings you will find a lot of horrible offensive teams over the years.

The huge issue is the offensive line. We got dominated by MSU and Wisky in the trenches. We are supposed to have an offensive line guru but I see a whole lot better o-lines year in year out in this conference.

it's not Davis... bout time some of you figured that out

Remember when everyone hated okeefe

Time to use some inference skills.

When you have play designs that are short of the chains, and were WR's end up in the same area it is a problem. Iowa has always been a run heavy team that utilizes TE's and that hasn't been the case under Davis. The offense changed for the worse and it's in large part to Greg Davis. His offense isn't a fit here and never will be.

I am starting to think the same thing. Either that, or we have had back-to-back OC's that just are not good. But you're 100% right - the offense has consistently been the main problem with Iowa football over the years. It's just that we've gone from mediocre under KOK to pathetic under GD.

It was stated several times that this year the offense was on Davis. He was given the reigns. That doesn't mean Ferentz isn't responsible, but he's not some handcuffed lackey. Besides, being conservative isn't really the issue here. They cannot execute and the play calling is highly questionable. I am done with this offense. O'Keefe's play action system was rarely prolific, but it got the job done more often than not. This system is far worse, but, in my opinion, so is the talent level.

This was another game where Coaching is responsible for the loss. And there have been far too many of those over the last 5 years.

Agreed with your post, but I think you're right about our talent level. If you look at our best offenses under KF, 2002 and probably 2008, look at some of the players we had at the skill positions those years. But I'm done - as long as things remain status quo with this offense (seems likely), I have zero hope that Iowa is EVER going to be more than a 6 or 7 win program, at best. Frankly, that's more or less what we've been the better part of the last decade. Not sure why I would expect anything different at this point.

WI knew what we were going to do on nearly every play. That's what good coaching does.

Every team knows how to play our running game. Without a fast back who can make a cut, it goes no where. That's why someone like Canzeri needed more carries. We saw today he's the only one to make that cut and has speed.

But they shut it down soon after that. They crash hard on the zone plays. Yet we don't adjust (COUNTER!!!!)

And teams do not fear our passing game. They creep 8-9 guys in box knowing we only throw the ball 10-15 yards down field.

Just a disgusting offense to watch. So tired of it. Back in 2007 I felt this way, and then last year and this year.

Ferentz hired him (since this post is just you attempting to deflect blame from Ferentz) and historically Ferentz teams have lacked offense.

I partially agree but make no mistake this is KF's offense...there was so little imagination today when we got near the goal line that the whole staff should be fired and the first one is KF.

Is there not another running play in the book??

No there is not have you not watched Iowa football games for the past 12 years. Remember KF has always claimed that the boys lack execution....well I think we lack COACHING execution.

2007 was frustrating because Christensen was so awful and the defense was pretty pedestrian. This team absolutely had the talent to be far more competitive than it was today. Sad.
