Gred Davis as OC next year?

Since Greg Davis is actually the interim OC and has to go through the interview process during the offseason, will he be the only one interviewing or will Iowa open it up and see what they can pull in? As far as I'm concerned he isn't working out. And Bill O'Brien put on a display last night of how Iowa should be using the TE's. I don't give GD any credit for the running game either, it's been this way for a long time at Iowa, but I do mostly blame him for the passing game issues. I believe his system it too much to handle for JVB and the Wr's. They definitely aren't on the same page or even chapter. Just wanted some thoughts from others.

I said all along Brian should be our next O coordinator. Maybe he bring some of that PSU, sorry I meant Patriot offense with him! You know the old school Iowa offense that actually uses the tight ends.

Yes because Ferentz will give him a minimum of 3 years to get it figured out. Despite completely destroying an at least respectable QB last year. Ouch.

Personally, I think the "experiment" has run its course.

Would it really matter who is the OC ? Until KF steps out of the stone age, whats going to change?

There is no way Mr. Conservative Kirk Ferentz is going to ditch his OC after one season. Even the most liberal of coaches give new coordinators two or three years to get things rolling. Those wishing that GD is gone after this season are going to be sorely disappointed when spring practice rolls around and Greg is still on the sidelines.

At the beginning of the year I was not high on Davis and to a point I am still not but after watching how JVB has progressed this year I am starting to wonder how much of this is actually on Vandenburg and the players. JVB seems to audible a lot, he focuses on one receiver and just seems to have no composure. We have had better performance from the receivers catching the ball in recent games but that is only if the ball gets to them. Vandenburg has been a huge disappointment in his leadership and mental toughness. I think receivers have been open he just can't get them the ball.

Remember when GD said CJF was the best TE he has ever had? Yeah, that is not working out like most thought it would.

Also, he coached Jermichael Finley. Just saying.

So, just to get this straight.... You think that the football players at Texas were smart enough to run the scheme, but Iowa's players are not?

Yes please lets hurry and get another Ferentz in a better position. The Ferentz that is the head coach should still be an offensive line coach some where.

JVB is pacing to throw 5 TD's and 9 int's this year. He was 25 and 7 last year.

That's coaching...period. GD is bad and he needs to go asap.

It is typical that someone not get credit for what is right but always get credit for what is wrong. If it is working smoothly then your dead grandma couldn't mess it up. On the other hand, if it isn't working it is always that person's fault.

You set up rules where he can't win. They can only lose because you made the rules that way.

However, he has a QB he didn't recruit (not his fault) that can't execute (not his fault) fairly routine plays. I don't have a problem with the gameplans or the play calling. I have a huge problem with the execution.

And you probably aren't a very astute student of the KF Era if you are asking if GD's job is in jeopardy or if it will be a "true" open interview process at the end of the season. There isn't really an interview process at that time. What was already done just has to be formalized.

To think there is still going to be a process that is open is somewhat naive.

Davis' responsibility is to adapt to his players and do whatever he can to make it work. If JVB isn't talented enough to pull off his normal offensive scheme then he needs to make changes so it does work with JVB. That's the way that the world works. If something is thrown at you while you're working you either adapt or get fired. Why should this situation be any different?
