Gred Davis as OC next year?

I'm pretty sure the conversation between Kirk and Greg Davis went like this.

Kirk: "Hey Greg, Do you want to take over for O'Keefe, one of the best OCs in the nation?

Greg: "That's a lot to live up too, I'm not sure I can handle the pressure of taking his place. What if the team doesn't do well?

Kirk: "Don't worry about it! Iowa is stuck with me until 2020! My contract is so big they just can't get rid of me no matter how poorly the team performs. In fact two years ago I had the most talent you've ever seen on an Iowa football field and we stunk it up, even lost to the worst Minnesota team to ever take the field, but I'm still here. How about I pay you a crap ton of money, you come be an interim OC and then when the season is over, no matter how bad it is, I'll hire you on full time and you can stick around until my contract is up in 2020. We can be pals! How does that sound?"

Davis: As long as you give me some of that delicious gum you're always chomping on.

No all we need is to wait for Vince Young's kid to grow up a little and BOOM a national championship should be coming our way soon.

Brian Ferentz

Sorry but I have had enough of Ferentzeseseses'.

Seriously. You know what would happen next.

No more head coaches with names ending in Z.

It might turn into some creepy Penn St. thing-a-ma-jiggy. You know brainwashed cult-like isolated in-breeds.

22 years of Ferentz will be plenty Thank you very much.

Remember when GD said CJF was the best TE he has ever had? Yeah, that is not working out like most thought it would.

Also, he coached Jermichael Finley. Just saying.

Can we say for certain CJF is playing poorly or is JVB not getting him the ball? I really have no idea

Since Greg Davis is actually the interim OC and has to go through the interview process during the offseason, will he be the only one interviewing or will Iowa open it up and see what they can pull in? As far as I'm concerned he isn't working out. And Bill O'Brien put on a display last night of how Iowa should be using the TE's. I don't give GD any credit for the running game either, it's been this way for a long time at Iowa, but I do mostly blame him for the passing game issues. I believe his system it too much to handle for JVB and the Wr's. They definitely aren't on the same page or even chapter. Just wanted some thoughts from others.

I don't think this is accurate. Yes, he has a one-year contract, just like he did ever year at Texas, but he and others went through a complete interview and hiring process this past offseason. I haven't seen anything that says he is an interim and has to go through the hiring process again.

Would it really matter who is the OC ? Until KF steps out of the stone age, whats going to change?

This isn't the stone age. The stone age was KOK, slow tempo slow developing vertical pass plays.

This Davis crap is just weird with everyone running 3 to 7 yard routes towards the sideline and short of the first down marker.

One can only hope that this is just a one year stint for Greg Davis. Thus far his offensive strategy has been worse in my humble opinion than that of KoK. Get someone younger and hungrier who will tailor the offense around our strengths and not try to force us into a mold that we just do not have the talent for. Sure, it can work great if you get the blue chippers that Texas gets, but for teams like Iowa, you have to mold your team into it's strengths, not it's weakness.

JVB was pretty good last year, but this year he's struggled greatly. I don't know how much of that is psychological, confindence, or talent. He makes the tough throws on occasion that are high quality. But will miss the easy ones, which drive us fans crazy. It may be time to sit him down for a series or a quarter so he can stand back and watch someone else run the offense and see what they can do. That will be a sink or swim moment for JVB and will either cause him to regress further allowing Rudock or whomever a chance to take the starting role, or get JVB's head back in the game.

To all of you who still need proof CJF is not an elite TE, Greg Davis said he was and its more than obvious this guy has no business coaching a FBS team anywhere. By the way he has nearly 40 catches this year people act like anything shy of 100 is horse poop. Who the heck did JVB get the ball to regularly? Under utilization of a slow big TE who cant break a tackle inst what did this team in.

I personally don't think Davis's system is designed for this team. Our QB is Pro-Style, our Wr's are not as fast as some of the elite receivers in the country, the backs our fast but not designed for power. Except Weisman.
KOK's style would benefit this years team. Not to say that it would year next year. We don't know what we are going to get out of our QB's and some of the TF could be faster and skilled for Davis's style. CJF is probably the only skilled position player that could play for any style of offense. He is gifted and really showed some improvements through out the year. In fact I would take CJF as a starting TE on a lot of teams.
Maybe KF was reaching on who he hired as OC do to the fact that he really didn't have a list that he was satisfied with and Davis happened to be available. I am one who would give Brian a shot at OC. He could be who his dad wants in the first place. Then possibly take over as head coach.

This is enlightening:
