Good read on Iowa QB commit Nic Shimonek

that better than getting 12-13 2*'s every year, like Iowa was getting from 1999 thru 2009

2005 was a National top 10 recruiting class that had multiple 4-5 star players on it. One of the most disappointing classes ever.

I think the difference is Iowa getting higher rated players at skill positions. It seemed that Iowa's top recruits were o-line and TEs for obvious reasons. But now they are continuing good recruiting with o-line and TEs and but now are getting good/great DBs, WRs and RBs. The RBs will eventually start working out in the long term.

I love complete generalizations about all HS players from 1/4 of the state. Just completely ridiculous to make statements like these.

It's like saying, I hope Iowa never recruits another 5* prospect because Dan Doering didn't pan out. Sad.

Iowa had a basketball player from Keokuk named Bill Logan who led the Hawks to 2 Big Ten Titles, 2 Final Fours and a national runnerup finish. I think he was an All-American his senior year.

Some players from SE Iowa pan out very well!!!!

I'm truly puzzled as to what happened to Vandenberg, the kid is tough and could play well. He put up great numbers the year before. Yes, he had McNutt last year and he had KOK's system for 4 years but even then he looked like a true freshman who couldn't hit WRs standing still 10 yards down field. He never hit guys in stride (not like he did that extremely well anyway) but this year was horrible. He can make all the throws that was asked of him but he simply didn't do it. He clearly wasn't comfortable in this offense. I really feel bad his senior year played out the way it did. I liked him, still do, he is a good kid and great Hawkeye.

And you say this why?

Some of the greatest Hawks ever, played at small high schools..
Greenway
Cook
Myers
Devries
Clark

Nice bunch of skill player collection there! The kid may or may not be good. But why are we competing for a qb from such a small high school with a program that had so many top 10 finishes??? Not a good sign.

Who is competing? Iowa offered him, he accepted almost immediately. GD wants this kid to run his offense. Doesn't matter if he is from the smallest or largest school in the nation. Only matters what he does once he gets to Iowa.

You miss the point. I can't spell it out any clearer. Go ahead and accept the state of a program that is recruiting kids from tiny tiny high schools putting up big stats. Guarantee KF isn't even thinking about QB for this guy. How big was Derby?

This is a sign of the state of the program.

I agree the state of the program isn't good, in fact horrible. I can barely watch without that feeling of "oh what now".

I'm sorry I don't care what your point it because "size doesn't matter", just wait until Herby sees this you will be in trouble!

Shimonek has taken his team to the 2A division II State Championship game to be played next week in the Cowboys Stadium , stats to follow.
oh by the way
Clark
Greenway say hello

To play big time in today's market, Iowa needs a top qb recruit. Obviously Rudock at 3 stars wasn't good enough.

last night stats
15-26 175 yards 1 TD and 1 INT
for a total on the season of 2555 yards 33 TD's 6 int's on 160 of 252
18 carries for 106 yards and 1 TD
giving him 842 yards 16 td's on 126 carries for a 8..85 avg pc

Mildred HS located in Corsicana is 55 miles from Dallas, so its not like he plays out in the middle of nowhere.
and Tx was recruiting him as a SS for their base ball team.
Shimonek was invited to South Carolina's and Oklahoma St.'s summer camps.. this kid is not a unknown quantity, and I will take GD opinion since he coached Applewhite, Young and McCoy. over anybody that thinks that he is a waste of time anyday.

Which QB you talking about, the one who is going to play defensive back at Kansas State?

A school can tell a kid they will give him a look at QB...and do so..and then the kid sees he's not gonna play QB there and can go to the position the staff pretty much pegged him for when he came there, or leave. Ertz isn't gong to be a QB at Kansas State

Sorry Jon, I had to dig this up and give you a hard time. Let's see how Ertz does as the starting defensi..... I mean quarterback for Kansas St. Keep up the hard work, I appreciate all you do for the Iowa faithful.

Yeah, Shimonek will be starting by midseason. But he will be doing the double gun salute after each touchdown pass.

Hell hath no fury like an anonymous message board poster disagreed with by the mod. One of us held on to this for three years...one of us forgot the exchange ever existed ;)

Still, it's a good reminder that I am wrong once every three years

Maybe it's just me but I find it oddly satisfying when someone presents their opinion as fact and then it turns out to be wrong. Fun stuff.

Wait, JM knew that Ertz would get injured just a couple of plays into the season? And he knew this three years ago? He should have bought some lottery tickets.
