Top shelf: Mildred QB Shimonek has put up dizzying career numbers » Local Sports » Corsicana Daily Sun, Corsicana, Texas

He had 64 touchdown passes coming into the season. He’s now at 96, four away from the magical number of 100. He is 123 yards away from 8,000 after entering the year with 5,497. He surpassed 900 attempts in last week’s 45-35 win over Nocona, and tossed his 500th completion Nov. 2 in a 72-0 win at Dallas Oak Cliff Life. The line on Shimonek’s four years at Mildred: 541 of 903, 7,877 yards, 96 touchdowns and 28 interceptions (20 of which came his first two seasons).

He also has over 700 rushing yards this year

another tidbit he has 946 yards rushing and 24 rushing TD's for his career, not bad he needs just 54 yards to get 1000 yards rushing, right now he has 120 total TD'S in his career 15 rushing and 32 passing this year alone
he also is avg 56.5 ypc this year with his longest run being 78

Herby, I highly doubt he is averaging over 56 YPC this year.

If he's the best QB on roster I hope he wins job regardless of being a freshman. 6'4", 220 lb is good size and those numbers are good. If he can pick up Davis system (which he ran a similar one in HS) then he should be in starting job conversation. If Kirk doesn't give him a shot at job because he already has a RS planned that would be foolish. He he needs a year or 2 then so be it.

Very good #'s. Comparable to an QB right here in Iowa that Iowa didn't give a lot of thought about so he's going to KSU. Hopefully this kid can come in and compete right away. Iowa definitely needs it. Looking forward to seeing him as a Hawkeye.

Which QB you talking about, the one who is going to play defensive back at Kansas State?

My gut tells me Sokol is the guy for the next 2 years and then Shimonek takes over. I think Beathard and Rudock both get passed over. I have no reason to suspect that other than it ran through my head this morning.

Well KSU just picked up a commitment from IWCC QB, but not him. Ertz was recruited and committed as a quarterback.

Didn't Ertz hurt his knee? And let's face it....southeast Iowa isn't a breeding ground for great football players. Ertz may end up being a great college QB, but after seeing the last SE Iowa star taking snaps, I'm not too unhappy we don't have another one coming into the program

Yes, he tore is ACL in the quarterfinals, maybe before, but played through the semifinals. Just because Vandy is from SE Iowa doesn't mean Ertz won't be any good. Completely different kids, schools etc... And Vandy wasn't horrible last year, just this year.

I love complete generalizations about all HS players from 1/4 of the state. Just completely ridiculous to make statements like these.

It's like saying, I hope Iowa never recruits another 5* prospect because Dan Doering didn't pan out. Sad.

Is this the kid your refering to? He don't look bad either. It's hard not to like how the Texas kid looks too. It'd be fun to have a qb develop early and be really good 2 or 3 yrs.

No, he's the JUCO qb from Iowa Western who just committed to KSU and will likely play right away. I'm talking about Jesse Ertz from Mediapolis, IA. He'll red-shirt next year as he tore his ACL in the playoffs this year.

Here are Ertz's career #'s.

446-713, 7337 yards, 98 td's, 24 int's. 62.5% comp %, 16.5 yards/comp.
302 rushes, 2116 yards, 32 td's, 7.01 yards/rush

I never said Ertz wouldn't be any good. SE Iowa isn't where I would go looking for a QB. That's all. I wish the kid well. Vandy wasn't a 'difference maker' either. JVB was 12-15 as a starting QB at Iowa. Just saying...
