Good Q&A With McCaffery (from CRG)

I liked the Fuller response. At least it does not sound like Aaron is irrevocably homesick or unhappy with Iowa as an institution or his teammates...so,that only leaves one thing, and that impediment hopefully has been removed.

I can see keeping Chad Walthall as it can help with continuity of current recruits as well as having more background on players, community, etc.

But the important think, like FM said, is that it has to be a good fit. People criticize Kirk's selections for assistants but the staff really FIT with the program and each other. Thus, the success of program

I mentioned this during the coaching search, but I think it would be a positive if Chad Walthall were to be retained. He seems to have a good relationship with all of the current players. I like the sounds of a Walthall, Mitch B., and former Iowa player staff.

Go Hawks!

I heard that Walthall was the the one that landed pretty much our entire 2010 class. Is that true? If so he might be good to keep around. It is one of the best classes Iowa has seen in awhile.

Is Aaron weighing his decision on Brommer's? I know that they're really close. I wonder if that is why he still hasn't made his decision.

I think keeping members of the previous staff really serves no real benefit. I think if you make a coaching change at the top then that new coach should bring in his own staff. I think keeping a member of the previous staff around can only serve as a trigger to what went wrong with the previous staff. And as the new person coming in, McCaffery should bring in his own guys and not feel obligated to keep someone around ...

Where do you get that McCaffery feels obligated to keep someone around? I don't get that feeling from this article or any of the interviews regarding staff that I have heard. Just as he shouldn't feel obligated he should not automatically dismiss the entire staff as some of them maybe talented and an asset to him.

You are right, if anything I read that he is evaluating Chad on his merits and he feels he is worth evaluating. I tend to agree. If you think about it, the times Lick was not coaching Chad came in and did a very good job. He also was not afraid to use players that Lick was not using and it payed off in each case...if Chad fits, he should be given the opportunity (IMO).

On whether Aaron Fuller stays with the team...."It’s my job to make sure he’s comfortable enough to stay."

Impressive stuff, taking ownership. Strange thing for a basketball coach in the state of iowa to do.

I like this openess. Not many coaches would have reavealed their conversation with a player like that. we all hope fuller stays. sounds like this is not an easy chocie for this young man to make, but he sure seems to be leaning coming back.
