Good news is were about to see a starting qb in the nfl from Iowa. Bad news is i'm a 49ers fan and its because Jimmy G is probably out for the season with a torn acl and mcl. On a brighter note I was bummed when I didn't feel like they gave CJ a legit shot at the gig last year when they pulled the trigger on the trade with the Patriots. About to see a lot of CJ and we will see whether he's just a journeyman back up or a legit NFL starter. He's got a great system to run as a qb. He made a heck of a throw for a TD that got called back because of a bogous penalty upon coming the game, so. Interested to see what CJ will do with his shot. Go get em CJ

Good thing Jimmy got that deal locked up last year.

Side note. Has there even been an NFL team who, year after year, comes out of the blocks quicker than Kansas City only to flame out in the playoffs, usually at home to a lower seeded team. Good God, if they crowned Super Bowl winners in September/early October the Chiefs would have at least a dozen by now.

Yes and as a chiefs fan from the old AFL days of the early 60's (I hated Oakland cheaters) they kill me every playoffs they are in. And Andy Reid has a long history of playoff coaching failures and Shottenheimer was playoff jinxed.

Its unreal. And like you mentioned it's happened with multiple coaches. It's like watching Rickie Fowler golf. If major champions were crowned on Friday Fowler would be in double digits easily.

As a Niners fan, do you think they'll go with CJ or sign/trade for a veteran?

Shanahan drafted him, and put him in there because they wanted him to be there long-term backup. He was never brought in to be the starter, but they love his toughness and moxy and wanted him to be the backup all along. They will look to see if there's somebody out there they can get cheap, they'll probably call the eagles i'm sure, and see what options they got, but they'd be fine with beathard getting beat up. I think also the last two weeks have shown them they're not as close as they thought. There is no way they give up more than a 6th rounder to go get somebody, and anybody better than beathard is gonna cost more than they will give up.

They will go sign some journeyman off the waiver wire but whoever that is won't be better than beathard at this point...…..short answer, this is beathards job the rest of the year unless he just tanks it up, then they'll probably give I think his name is mullins (their practice squad guy) a shot. But they will sign a third guy this week. Definitely Beathards job to tank at this point.

So updating...I checked out the waiver wire for qb's. They will probably sign some guy cheap like a matt McGloin, tj yates kinda guy. Guessing his first call would be to Kellen Clemens agent to see if he wants to come back to the nfl as a 35 year old backup. I think Clemens played for him at some point. They'll call the Eagles and teams like that with a legit backup, but I think eventually they will decide this is Beathards year to show what he's got, get his teeth kicked in, maybe trade off some older guys at the deadline, and plan to be contenders next year.

Wouldn't it be interesting if the 49ers trade with the Lions for Matt Cassel, then Jake Rudock can get his backup QB job back with the Lions.

They'll go with CJ no question. Who is out there to sign or trade for that would be a better option?
I honestly have no idea who might be out there. Foles? Not much that would be very good, but guys with starting experience. Several guys mentoring rookie QB's that wait for starters to start dropping so they can be traded to those teams, which is why they agree to mentor in exchange for the option to get traded.

Thanks for the response. Was hoping he'd get a legitimate shot first.

Would you consider Kapernich to be the Curt Flood of the NFL?

In some ways, yes. I have no idea how talented he really is, but he did have a knack. Without going for a meltdown of this board, I do understand why some players are against the national anthem.

In some ways he's like Tim Tebow, but who's the rebel without a cause.

In some ways I expect him to someday be done as a smaller Ali.
