Good day..Hawks win and clowns and deby go down

Poor Nebby, they came over to the Big Ten with such high hopes. After all they could buy their tickets to Big 12 championship game in August. But then they got delusions of grandeur and thought they could come over to the Big Ten and take over. Sorry little Corn Husker, some fairy tales don't have a happy ending.
Indiana's Tom Allen, with about 2% of the fanfare and hype, is progressing well ahead of Frost right now.

I've been critical of people who perceive how weak the West is vs the East. The West is definitely weaker this year and the head to heads bear this out. If Indiana gets in gear they East will be even stronger. I see them leapfrogging Sparty in the pecking order.

When does Minnesota play a team with a winning record? Because as of now they haven't. What a joke of a schedule they've had so far.
For comparison look at Alabama's. All the love they get look at who they have played this far. Pitiful!

Indiana's problem in football is keeping it going. Iowa is not a top 10 blue blood so they have trouble having even back to back great seasons, 2002-4, was a really great stretch.

Indiana has had some good seasons over the last 30 or 40 years but they cannot keep in going and that is the way for most programs not top 20/15.

It is better for conference football not to have teams that are always weak. It has been better for the big 10 to have teams like NW get better every few years. Rutgers is another story right now but Schiano did it there although not against the yearly type of Big 10 competition.

Stephen M Sipple of the Lincoln Journal Star is crying in his oatmeal this morning. The gist of his article, which I will spare you except for a couple highlights, is that expecting fans to be patient gets more difficult when a basketball school rolls you on your home turf.

Here's a few lowlights.
  • Special teams blunders and mental mistakes are still holding this team back.
  • How does a player like Whop Philyor, who's name sounds like someone who could have been one of Otis' sidekicks on the Andy Griffith Show, catch 14 balls.
  • Frost says they have some tough and dicsilpined guys, but not enough of them yet.

Point #1. Special teams are the hidden secret of any successful team. Take them lightly and you will be recruiting in December instead of preparing for a bowl game. Add mental mistakes and you have all the earmarks of a team that's not very well coached.

Point #2. Running hurry up offenses and trying to play basketball on grass may help you catch up in a game you're trailing, but it also leads to more plays from scrimmage for the other team as well. I would bet Indiana ran more plays from scrimmage than any other game this season, which not only gives them more opportunities, but also taxes the defense of the team going up tempo, giving them less rest on the sideline even when the offense scores. (Take note, Kirkball haters)

Which leads to point #3. Pretty self explanatory and it bears out on the field every Saturday.

Add to this the fact that he continues to get his quarterbacks killed and no wonder this is a recipe for disaster. And a beautiful sight for Iowa eyes.

Maybe they will have "Scott Frost Day" in the Hawkeye state when Opie gets canned. Or maybe they will be mouring the loss even worse east of the Missouri, because there's always a chance the next coach could right the ship.

I’m heading to Lincoln this year for the Hawks . I have never been to that stadium . I’m excited

Frost and his OC are not the sharpest pencils in the box. Their 2nd string QB, Vedral, leaves the game with an injury and he inserts their 3rd QB, a true freshman, and they call designed plays where he rushes time after time. In total he rushed 12 times and got wacked hard. B1G DLs and LBs have a way of beating up on running QBs ... it's big boy football.

Sipple is an irrepressible homer. I don’t understand the sports writers at the OWH and Lincoln papers.

Can’t imagine Morehouse acting like that, and he’s probably Iowa’s number 1 writer.

Frost is trying to bring his offense to the big ten west and it doesn’t work against physical defenses and its a joy to see unfold. Playing big ten teams isn’t the same as playing Memphis and USF.

A P5 head coach should almost always say after a loss the other team played better and in general his team didnt play well enough. Leave the specifics behind closed doors in the locker and film rooms and practice field.

That is why it was so strange last year after the Wisky loss that Kirk mentioned Beyer by name for his foot boot of the punted ball. Very unKirk like and it wasnt a total dressing down in public but unusual.

It seems from what I have read about Frost he not only throws his players under the bus but then gets in the drivers seat and drives the bus over them.

Beyer did more than foot boot that ball. He could see it on the ground in front of him, see Amani Hooker run away from it, still continue to move toward it, then turn his back to it.

I don't know what he was thinking. You hear eighth and ninth graders yell "Peter" or "poison" when a punt is rolling on the ground and that's to alert people who can't see it.

Beyer saw it. It's almost like he didn't know the rules. It was like Leon Lett on Thanksgiving day many years ago and just as damaging. Sans 2015 that was our best chance to beat Wisconsin this decade.

Well that is why they have practice, scramble drills, punts bouncing on the ground drills, downing the ball inside the 10 drills on a fake fair catch, coaches discussing the rules, players discussing the rules.

I am not going to go into getting on Beyer again. That wasnt my point

Btw, we had 3.25 inches of rain yesterday you drove through...

No you're point was what a tumbleweed Scott Frost is. And that coaches at this level don't make examples of players when talking to the media.

And it was blowing sideways in that wind. When passing a semi it was like driving through a car wash.

We stopped for gas about 7:30 at the Loves truck stop in LeRoy and when I opened my door the wind just about ripped it off the hinges.

My biggest worry driving home was fog. With that wind there was no worry of that!

Those weather conditions reminded me of that Bears/Packers Monday Night game in the nineties when Dick Butkus and Gale Sayers had their uniforms retired and the rain was coming down sideways and most people left after the retirement ceremony.

Glad you made it safely.

We were supposed to get intermittent rain.

Today is beautiful.

Btw Memorial Stadium could works as a test site wind tunnel.
