Golf courses in decent shape in Des Moines

That was exactly my point, bub. I knew you were a high roller and walking just ain't your bag, baby.

Relax or you'll have a hearty. Don't need that happening, now do we?

Took you 15 minutes, pal! You're slipping.
Or are you actually doing some form of worky-work today?? :D

Had to shower and get ready. This worky-work **** is hard work. Gotta look all dapper n stuff.

yeh...dapper...whatever you say, sport

DMGCC is playing nicely...oooooohhhhhhh.....rrrrrrriiiiiiggggghhhhhhttttttt, forgot where I was for a minute.

I've played there a half dozen times and I've never been impressed. In fact my father in law kinda joke about the suckers that pony up that kind of cash for such a mediocre course.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I'm not a big fan of TCI. The last hole is a great challenge, but nothing else is all that impressive. Maybe part of the problem is that the handful of times I've played there it has been in bad shape. Also, if the course is crowded, there is a logjam on the back 9 with a 3-hole stretch of a driveable par 4 and two par 3's.

TCI or Jester. TCI you really have to play smart to score and Jester is loooong with a lot of trees.

Played Toad Valley for first time tonight.. Course is in roooughh shape to put it lightly.
Did you pet the Toad on hole 1 for luck. I have to play that dog track in a month. What a sh!t hole. The only time the course was even tolerable was when they didn't sell beer and you were allowed to bring your own.

I did not. I maybe should have. I'm blaming my score on the fact that I hit from dirt and moved non-mowed tee boxes though.

I didn't pet the dam think either a year ago when I played it, and 18 holes later and 250 bucks short I wish I had. I'm going to spit on the dam think next month and if this event is rescheduled for there again, my team will be missing a player.

Jester... long?

Hole #2 maybe, but it seems like there are several par 4s where you can get by without using the driver.

I'd rather punch myself in the junk repeatedly if someone told me I had to spend 2 fitty to play that $hithole.

Here are some comments on some of the lesser-discussed courses in the area. Feel free to add your thoughts.

Briarwood - Flat course. Always seems to be windy.

Waveland - Has the "Old Muni" Charm. Gets a lot of traffic, so can get a little worn, but worth at least 1 visit per year. Course name is appropriate. Small greens.

AH Blank - Nothing special, other than occasionally hearing a lion or tiger during your backswing.

Terrace Hills - Not bad for a lower end public course.

Coldwater - In enemy territory, but a chance to play a links-style course (sort of).

Toad Valley and Woodland Hills - Warning, these courses are favorites for the blue hairs. Be prepared for a long round.

Grandview - Been a long time since I've played there, but I seem to recall it being a pretty short track.

Willow Creek - Jorts and wife beaters are encouraged.

Deer Run and Shady Oaks - Basically, these are two dog tracks in the Indianola area, but play them once just to experience some of the quirky holes.

You boys can come to Omaha area, we are very lucky to have the level of "inexpensive, and open to the public course" that we have

Most expensive public is Quarry Oaks at $70, about 3-5 other within 45 minutes that are about $60, a Bunch at $50. Even about 4 municipals that are Phenominal and will kick ur a$$ if you play poorly.

Of course there are about 6 private clubs, only about 2 are truely good courses, the rest are "bushwood" mentality.

Playin in DM this weekend before the big FF draft....Legacy I think....

Anybody on here playing to better than a 7 handicap?

Duff:

Beaver Creek is a good track. Bent grass fairways and typically on Tuesdays they have good deals.

Copper is nice, but as Jon said: bring a jar of Vasaline for the back 9, it is tight.

TCI is a gem
