Glass Half Full

-I think this is only the 5th time a KF team has gone undefeated in the non conference. 2015, 2009, 2006, and 2003. In 3 of those 4 years Iowa won 10 or more games. It isn't like the 2009 or 2015 teams looked like world beaters early on either.
-The passing offense has looked pretty dang good. If you would have told me that we would throw for 458 yards and 8 TD's with a 8.1 YPA average I would have said no F ing way.
-Young WR look to be fairly solid. We have always heard that the Iowa system is just too complex and it kept WR off the field as Fr. and lots of times even as RS FR. Seems that Brian and Kelton have found ways to make the offense simple enough to get play making young players on the field.
-RB depth seems to be more than just Wadley and Butler. Young and Ivory-Martin both looked very good yesterday.
-Stanley looks to be calm cool and collected, he has a big arm, can make all the throw, just needs to get some touch on the deep balls
-Sloppy play early can be corrected, especially the penalties can be easily cleaned up.

-We suck, we didn't blow out Wyoming or N. Texas
-Only 458 yards passing vs 3 horrible teams, should have 300 yards per game in these 3 games.
-Derick Willis! WHAR Derick Willis! This staff doesn't ever play talent!
-Eno Benjamin! WHAR Eno BENJAMIN! This staff runs off talented players before they even get to campus!
-Nic Shimonek! WHAR Nic SHIMONEK! This staff buries talented player until they are forced to transfer!
-Sloppy Play by this team, look at all the penalties!


Well I guess I am for sure a glass half full kind of guy.
 
Now that there are only 3 non conference games, going undefeated in them isn't as big of a deal. Off the top of my head, we would have also gone undefeated in '04, '08, and '10 without a second P5 school.
 
Glass half full:

The ISU win could prove to be a pretty good one. They are no joke
Passing game looks better than I could have hoped
Iowa has 3 big play possibilities in Wadley, Fant, & ISM
Iowa has some good intermediate guys like Easley, MVB, & Hockenson
OL had its best half on Saturday
Defense had its best half on Saturday

Glass half empty:

Wyoming win doesn't look so good. They are flat awful, even their offense isn't good
Iowa has played 3 horrible defenses
OL & DL have struggled for long stretches against far inferior programs
Injuries to key players
 
I predicted 9-3 at the beginning of the year so the glass has been half full from the start. At least for me anyway.
 
Glass was half full of a colored liquid...I drank it. I think this team can beat everyone on the schedule, except Penn State. I'm not sold on Wisconsin yet...they truly have played no one with a pulse and you can't absorb that many losses on defense and not feel it. They just haven't played any good offensive teams. OSU has not looked invincible to this point either. The team that has stepped up IMO is Purdue. Damn, where did that come from. They are legit and will be a tough out.

Penn State is ISU/North Texas offensively rolled into one with much better players at TE, RB, and QB. It just sets up terribly for us defensively. Like I said, I think the other games are winnable. Do I think we will win them all, no, but I'm saying it's not crazy to think we will have a great shot in all of them. We will also find out about MSU this coming week.

It's actually 655 yards and 10 TDs but whose counting. I'm completely glass half full, not necessarily because we're going to win every game, we might be missing some key components on defense, but because I like the direction we're going. I remember the 1st time I saw our offense under GD against NIU and it was the opposite.

Also, I heard on the Morehouse podcast that KOK learned a lot in the NFL the past 5 years and that KOK and BF are constantly brainstorming. It all sounds very encouraging to me.
 
Glass half full for sure and that won't change if we get beat by a Top 5 team.

Hope if we do lose against PSU we can win the next 2 and we'd still be in really good shape.

Wadley health is my only concern. The young backs could easily overcome a Butler injury but we need Wadley healthy.
 
Statistically Iowa is pretty average in most categories. That is an improvement on offense, but a drop off from Iowa's usually stout defense. Neither are great or terrible, the weakest aspect being pass rush on defense. The defense deeply misses Jaleel Johnson's ability to take up multiple blockers inside.

Positive on offense are are time of possession, successful third and fourth down conversions, red zone conversions, passing touchdowns, and decent pass efficiency, The receivers have been more than serviceable, and Wadley and the tight ends have provided some big play spark. The biggest drop off on offense is the run blocking.

Like many other, I give Iowa little chance against Penn State at this point. Even in areas where the Hawkeyes may improve, there is too little time to fix all the problems.
 
The #1 thing BY FAR that I'm happy with so far this season is Stanley and our receivers - ALL OF THEM ARE DOING GREAT!
Wasn't but maybe 5-6 weeks ago that 95% of those on this board (myself included) were convinced all we had was the run game.
Shows what we know.
