Give credit where credit is due

Bingo, although I can't see Iowa having another Minnesota like game the rest of the season. Your point about Breslin is right on; even Alford's best teams got whitewashed up there, and Lickliter has taken two of the worst (record-wise) teams in school history and played competetive games. I don't know about anyone, but I could hear Izzo's sphincter tightening from here.

That's twice that Lick has beat or almost beat Izzo. They clearly are a program that gets better as the season goes on, but maybe this group of Iowa freshman are starting to learn how to play within themselves.

I agree with foreverhawk, that this team just needs more depth and
they're not that far off. They have pride and they keep fighting. They have really improved since the beginning of the year. I think they may get a little tight shooting the ball sometimes. But the ball movement and player movement without the ball is night and day better! The effort by the players and the coaches is obvious to me.
I'll keep watching! Go Hawks!

That's true, but like with any young team there are going to be some brain farts and bad performances between now and the end of the year. That being said, it does seem like they're not thinking so much out there as opposed to just playing and reacting, and that bodes well for the rest of this season and next year.

And Andre Woolridge couldn't go left :), but I'll take him on the team anytime.

I like Payne, especially being stuck having to play so many minutes being a true freshman.

Maybe we're all drinking too much of the Kool-Aid because none of us were expecting much tonight, but I don't care...I'll take another glass!

CLINK!! That was the sound of our glasses of Kool-Aid as we salute tonight's effort and the teams continuing improvement.

As they get tired due to the lack of depth, this makes it that much harder to do what you need to do on offense, i.e. cutting, setting picks, rebounding and having legs under you to shoot a jumper. Makes it harder to defend as well, especially against a quick athletic team like MSU. Add some depth to this team and it will be amazing the difference in the win loss column next year!

No Lionhawk...Kool-Aid can only be enjoyed one way...the Dixie Cup...but I'll accept your post without penalty...

THIS time...

But you have to remember, that new depth that will be available next year will wear down just as quickly if they're forced into lengthy playing time. Let's hope that doesn't happen.

I'm there. Credit is due here for a team that kept fighting and came back to nearly pull of a big upset. Just too big of a hole to climb out of, and not enough time left to complete the comeback. Great effort.

No question, but the Hawks should have a much deeper rotation next year, so guys won't have to play as many minutes!

Agreed but if I remember correctly didn't they have a shot at a three to tie with like 40 seconds left that just missed?? Maybe it was to get it within a bucket. I was so wrapped up in the comeback I can't remember.

I can't remember for sure now either, to be honest. I remember getting to within 3, then MSU got a driving layup to put them back up 5 without about 1:30 to go, then it was 3 again I thought. I just kind of got the feeling thought that with maybe a couple more minutes on the game clock, maybe the Hawks could've pulled this one out. Momentum was on our side, for sure.

I think Iowa had it to 5 and the ball. Cole got fouled and only hit the first FT to cut it to four. I think 4 was the closest we got....not sure though!

I was pretty sure Cole hit both of his free throws and it was Fuller that went 2-4 down the stretch but either way, it was a great comeback attempt and will hopefully only provide some confidence going into Bloomington where I think we may be able to get another win.
