People like Gus because he has good tag lines. To each their own. I can name at least three other play by play guys I would take over Gus Johnson, especially in the Big Dance
I'd actually like to see him to golf or soccer....I might actually watch. He is, without doubt, the best young announcer in the business. He makes ANY basketball game seem very exciting.

"DONOVAN'S GOT THE BALL AND TAKING IT HIMSELF UP THE...OH! A STEAL! NOW WE'RE GOING THE OTHER WAY...BAD KICK! AND NOW WE'RE GOING BACK THE OTHER WAY...AND THERE'S A PASS UP AHEAD TO, NO...IT'S STOLEN AND BACK THE OTHER WAY WE GO!"...it just goes on and on like that til the refs decide the game is over...![]()
I was thinking more of the Hispanic announcer on the Simpsons when a soccer game comes to Springfield.
I respect that some people like his style. But it is a little over the top for me...a little too in your face, a little too much fluff, and not quite enough subtle substance that allows the game to stand on its own.In my opinion, no one has come close to the Vern Lundquist-Bill Raftery duo. If you like college basketball, that is the mountain top.

Vern and Bill are the best, no doubt about it. I used to like Gus but he's just got way too over the top lately. Just because you're screaming at the end of a 61-48 ball game doesn't make it exciting, he tries to force drama into every game.
