"Get Ready to Meet Damon Bullock"

Garmon is going to be the starter.

Unlikely Garmon or HIll will start out of the gate. My guess is all 5 rbs ( assuming Rogers gets a few carries at HB) see some time in Chicago vs Northern Ill.. I do think there is a chance that Garmon or Hill starts a game before year is over. Its a long season and any of our HBs making it without injury just doesn't seem to happen.

I do think one of the "other guys" will have a big year. Bullock, Johnson, or maybe even Dawson. Kind of like the year AROB had. Hill and Garmon should be both be good but we need one of the other guys to surprise. My money is on Bullock too. Time will tell.......Don't rule out the Meier kid either......who knows

I love Bullock. I think he was the big steal of the '11 class and will be a star in his time at Iowa before moving on to the NFL. Here's a Pat Harty piece on the sophomore-to-be.

Harty: Get ready to meet Damon Bullock | Hawk Central

Well as a hawk fan I hope you're right. I'd be surprised if Garmon or any other true freshman started out of the gate based on Ferentz' past uneasiness with freshmen. I think if we lose some games early then next season will be an RB audition for the future.

Someone who has already carried the ball will get the early starting job. RBs, via committee, will continue to get carries until they put the ball on the ground.

Taking care of the ball and how they run behind the OL consistently will get them more carries.

A clear leader will emerge by the start of the B1G season. I think we will eventually end up w/ a 1-2 situation like we saw w/ Arob and BW in 2009.

Would love to see Brad Rogers in that mix along w/ a speedster.

i cant help thinking back to the arob/wegher yr and thinking that we actually will have a better version of those two in hill/garmon.

hill is a better version of arob from my take as they are both more downhill runners but hill seems quicker (the knock on arob was quickness to the hole) and bigger to take the pounding.

garmon's tapes show similar abilities to wegher with the top end speed and elusiveness. i also feel he showed the pass catching ability just a step below wegher who was incredible in that respect.

i think they will go with that type of 1-2 punch for rbs. so i have the match ups that i think will happen.

fill the arob-type role:
hill vs. johnson vs. dawson vs. meier

fill the wegher-type role:
garmon vs. bullock (would have included canzeri before the injury)

i think the first battle will mainly be between hill and johnson and i give the edge to hill because johnson has struggled to keep his place against the younger talent. meier i think will lose out because of quickness compared to the others and taking hits behind the line (this then facilitates a position change to lb or de). dawson i think just wont have the talent ability and become a really solid back up to spell time and play specials. i see dawson as a better version of paki that we dont cringe when he gets in for a few plays.

i think the second battle could be fun to watch but i again give the edge to the frosh. nothing against bullock but when i watch him run i see more of a wr running and i see a rb with garmon. both have similar skill sets and i think similar measureables. so i am going based off running style and garmon's will be able to take more punishment. maybe they have worked with bullock on this but he ran very upright last yr.

i know i am leaving out rogers. i think they can keep him at rb but i could see some 1 back sets with him as the young guys wont be as good of blockers. plus he can catch the ball and will be a load in the open field. i believe his full move back to rb would never come unless we are decimated at rb because he is heads and tails above his back ups which was seen last yr when he had no real practice time and came in and won back the starting job at like 80% in 1 week.

Rogers is too good of a FB to try to utilize him often as a RB. He needs to be in there to block, but I can see him getting a few carries as a FB

Don't count out Dawson just because he isn't on scholarship. I see more of a wr with Garmon than Bullock. Rogers may now have a decent backup in Weisman.

Newsflash> Nate Meier is not going to be a running back any more than Austin Vier was going to be a quarterback. Put the notion out of your minds, people.

But without him we probably lose that game against Northern Illinois in the Chicago Bears Stadium, I think it was Greg Davis' first or second game as OC.

Imagine if somebody would have predicted this in April 2012.

I predict Rogers will retire early due to heart problems. Weisman will become the starting fullback.

Hill will get hurt or drop out in the pre-season and will never be heard from again.

Bullock will start and do well in the opener against NIU but then will get hurt in the 2nd or 3rd game, and will never start again, becoming Iowa's 3rd down back the rest of his career, but he does graduate.

Garmon will come to reileve Bullock in the 2nd or 3rd game but also will get hurt, will drop out after his freshman year and will never be heard from again untill he ends up getting arrested years later.

Weisman switches from fullback to tailback after everybody else gets hurt or drops out, and ends up being a 3-year starter at tailback.

Canzeri eventually recovers from an ACL but sits behind Weisman for 3 years on the depth chart.
