Gatens or Christopherson

All homerism aside which guy has the better shot of sticking and making an impact with an NBA team. Here are the career avg stats for both guys.

Gatens:
12.8 PPG, 42% FG%, 37% 3FG%, 86 FT%, 2.3 APG, 3.6 RPG, 1.1 SPG

Christopherson:
9.8 PPG, 43% FG%, 44% 3FG%, 86 FT%, 1.7 APG, 2.4 RPG, 0.5 SPG

For me its Gatens with the D being the deciding factor. I also think his stats, especially FG% and 3FG% are slightly tainted with him being the main scoring option for a good portion of his career on teams with not much else to draw defensive attention away. Basically less high percentage shots because of defensive attention. Christopherson had guys like Brackins and White who were much better players than anyone Iowa has had in the last 4 years.

Neither. But between the 2 I don't really even think it's that close because of defensive ability. Gatens > Christopherson.

No one gives a crap about defense in the NBA. A guy that can sit behind the line and drop the most wide open 3's is the winner. It's a toss up, and in the end neither one will stick in the NBA and I don't even know if either will waste their time with it. There's plenty of money to be made overseas.

Have you bothered watching the NBA since about 1989? How can you say no one gives a crap about defense in the NBA?

You obviously haven't watched an NBA game the last decade. NBA defense is impressive to watch. You don't play defense, you don't win. Just ask the Lakers after last night.

As for the OP's question, it's Gatens. Gatens gives you more size and a better defender. He's a better athlete as well but not by much. I think Scotty is a better shooter and handler but would be to short to be a SG in the NBA.

This is spot on.

Gatens, due to size he could play the 2 with a penatrating point guard Dan Mejerle-esk. SC to small 2 play the 2 and 2 slow to be a point.

Gatens is the guy I'd take in college for sure. I think he's the better all-around player. But he's kind of a jack of all trades (good at a lot, great at nothing), whereas Christopherson is a great spot-up shooter.

Don't think either would/will make it, but Scotty might get more of a look because he has one skill that might translate to the NBA game, where I'm not sure Gatens does.

If Gatens is on he is just as good a shooter as Scotty but that just the thing he isnt always on.

First of all, thats ridiculous, second neither Gatens nor Christopherson could guard anyone in the NBA.

Neither one will ever sit on an NBA bench.

I think offensively Christopherson does just about everything better. Definitely a better ballhandler, penetrator, passer, finisher\scorer.

Gatens is a better rebounded and defender.

I look at Mike Miller of the Heat as the Gatens style player, and sadly, Miller is bigger, and better, and he is only hanging on as a shooter, like Kyle korver.
Adam Haluska was better than Matt, and he could not hang on.
Christopherson is a better pure shooter than Matt, but smaller, and so he has to be a pg,which means he has to guard pgs....honestly,neither guy has much of a chance, but I do think Christopherson might be a hair more of a fit at that level as a backup pg,who can shoot it,a la Mike Bibby. Again,no chance for either guy, imo. It is kind of like Jim Carrey having a better chance than his buddy at the hot redhead in Dumb and Dumber...extreme longshots.

Gatens, mainly because of his defense and size.
Scott is a better pure shooter and ball handler, though.

I don't think either make it in the NBA, but I'd root for both.

Neither are really much of a finisher/scorer.
If you are talking about just getting buckets, I think Gatens is better.
But neither can get to the hole effectively. Matt did better his sr year, but overall really is not effective at all inside 8 feet... neither is Scott.

I would be pretty surprised if either one ever sat on an NBA bench, but the D-League is a good possibility if for no other reason than a local draw for the Energy.

I love how every couple of weeks someone comes out of the woodwork claiming there is no defense in the NBA, only to crawl back in their hole once rational minds strongly disagree with them.
