Actually, Hoiberg does have something to do with it. 2012 and 2013 in Iowa are make it or break it years. If the Hoiberg experiment does not blow up and he gets the potential out of his sketchy players, they will be the state's premier program. It will be very hard for FM to recruit against that.
That being said, even if the Hoiberg experiment does blow up, if FM cannot close the deal with a good portion of the 2012 and 2013 instate players and cannot recruit a strong Big Ten class by 2013. He will not last until 2015. Now, I agree that he will get to year 4. But year five will only come with significant results in recruiting and/or wins by year 4.
Hoiberg should not matter, that would be like saying that Belien-Crean-Smith-Lickliter should all be linked because they were brought in the same year. Should Indiana fire Crean because Iowa fired Lickliter and Belien and Smith have made the NCAA tourney...um, no.
As a true Hawkeye fan the only thing that concerns me about ISU is the we pummel them into the dirt and spit on them. It is a rivalry and I don't care who their coach is and who their players are, my intent is that Iowa beats them each year, if it is a good game then fine, if Iowa loses I am ticked...plain and simple.
When fans start comparing coaches, it is bad news. Like one poster that said McCaffery was linked to Altman at Oregon...really? How?
As far as recruiting goes...Iowa will get at least one of the 2012 Iowa guys and if they get more, then GOD bless them. The one thing though, I am not going to panic. For those of you who think it is a lost season, there are no lost seasons, unless the coach is fired after that season. Iowa has four starters back and will have a real rotation, when Gatens is back and it will be sooner than what people have freaked out about, Iowa will be better for it. Iowa has a stable program with Fran at the helm, just let him coach and quit putting him in the grave.
Let's face it, if ISU would have hired anyone not named Hoiturd, Iowa fans would care less.
