Garmon

Wegher didnt sniff the backfield against UNI in 2009. His first carries came the following week in Ames and I believe those were after the outcome had already been decided. And a redshirt freshman RB has nothing to do with my post.

McCall seems to be the only true freshman RB to get meaningful snaps in the opener in quite a while. And those only came because we were playing in a monsoon and Coker couldnt hold onto the ball.

Wegher still ended up with more carries than Robinson. He had over half his carries (8) by the time he scored with 6 mins left in the 3rd to make it 28-3, so it’s not like all of his carries were garbage time.

[/FONT]Hampton got nine carries against Maine in the opener of ’08 and 10 the next week vs FIU.

Jeremy Allen was a fullback but got the ball as a H-back, Gimm is a SR this year and has started, so its not like he has not seen the field before
Rogers if needed can play as a H-back if nobody steps up
and if Garmon is only going to get 2-3 carries a game he may as well redshirt
but if is half as good as advertise he will get more like 12-15 carries a game to start, then increase as the season goes forward

herby we use a tailback which is sometimes called a halfback. but the h-back position is a tightend who is not on the line of scrimmage and usually is in motion.

i would rather see an extra lineman in blocking for rogers than gimm. he was not a good blocker. there is a reason that rogers took over the starting role when he was still only like 75-80% for conditioning. gimm tried hard but we went to a lot more 2 te and 1 back sets early after we found out gimm clogged holes rather than making them.

i have no problem with garmon not redshirting even without a lot of carries. he could be like shonn greene and go under kicks and play special teams. and from what i heard greene was good enough as a frosh to warrant many carries. plus with how our rbs get hurt id rather he is ready to go by going under kicks than sitting and watching and having his rs pulled later.

hopefully Gimm corrects his mistakes in his senior year
other than that, i feel that if Garmon is as good as advertised he will earn the starters spot, considering the results that Wegher had as a freshmen and how Coker did has a freshmen after recovering from a broken collar bone, both were 4* rb's, and with Rogers to block for him i see quiet a bit of success

for as much as you got on people for talking up McCall, you sure do talk up Garmon a lot

my talking up Garmon is nothing like what people were doing with McCall. they saw McCall did a couple nice thing against a bad DII team and suddenly he is going to be the next great thing ahead of a established starter.
with no established starter for Garmon to compete against i expect him to do pretty good compared to the success that Wegher and Coker had as true freshmen considering how he is ranked just as was Coker and Wegher as 4*
plus he is supposed to be faster than either one
and i am not projecting him to be a 1000 yard rusher on the season, and expect the carries to be about 15 a game as the starter

Who knows how Garmon will turn out. Im excited for him to get to Iowa and if he plays he does if he sits a year he sits. However Id go out on a limb and say this. Being a cancer survivor this kid has a second chance on life and Id bet hes not taking anything for granted and will take advantage of every opportunity hes given.

also not all highly rated players that come to Iowa end up as failures
i just see Canzeri as a starter not at 170 lbs, the height is not a problem as Timmy D, Russell and Sanders were 5-8 to 5'9 and had outstanding Careers, but they didn't weigh 170 lbs, i hope he can get up to 190-195 to be the starter

when i watched him it looked like he could put on 15 or 20 lbs easily without losing the speed and quickness. I am starting to see him as more of a damian simms as a backup who can hit the homerun and fill in really nicely.
