Gameday Chances for CyHawk Game

Can we discuss Jon Miller saying on a podcast that open latrine in Ames is as good a stadium as Kinnick? I didn’t know they legalized LSD in Oklahoma.

Maybe he was mesmerized by that big ole gigantic scoreboard and having the 3rd highest seating capacity in the Big 12.:)

Gameday will never be there for Iowa/ISU. Gameday will only show up in Ames if they are killing it going into Texas or Oklahoma. Not that much different for Iowa, except they have more options, instead of 2 they have 5, depending on what type of years Wisconsin and Michigan St. are having.

Even if both teams are ranked, nobody outside of Iowa cares about the game. It does not have the tradition or magnitude of the Iron Bowl, or Cal-Stanford, or even the Apple Cup.
I don’t care about any of those.
What’s the Apple Cup? iPhone Xr vs. iPad?

I think he said the tailgate atmosphere ranks with Kinnick.

Anyway, the AD job and which is better. That’s some good goofiness right there.

Tailgating is so different in both towns. Hard to compare. Ames is mostly all one big one. If you like that, it is better If you like yard after yard even on back streets each with its own tailgate, then that is better.

Man this thread got off the rails fast but I have to say Fryowa made it funny. Game Day got bad a long time ago. BTN for me as I want to see what the league is doing.

Game day experience in Ames is livelier and modern. If you want that, Ames is much better. If you like 1994, Kinnick is much better. Just saying.

*Hawk fan for life. Ties to ISU.

ISU's north end is trash. The press box is tiny and ancient and looks pathetic. And for god sakes the concrete inside the stadium at JT looks like it was last painted in the 1970s. Buy some brick and brick over that crap. I do like the regular grass over the turf. The one great thing about ISU is much easier access to concessions and restrooms, although they need a serious makeover as well.

No coat of paint is gonna fix the ketchup and mustard color scheme.

I thought I would bump this thread. In the latest podcast (HN Pod: Twitter Questions and CFB Trends) at about 7m 30s Deace says that he heard Kirk Herbstreit say during an interview that this game is on the radar for Game Day that week.

I think it would be good for this rivalry to get national attention. Although, I really wish it was at Kinnick rather than Lames.

I think it’s got to be a top option. It will be two ranked teams. I still think it’s going to be a Syracuse despite GD being at Clemson before that.

It would kind of suck to see Gameday go to Ames instead of Iowa City but it would be great publicity for both state universities and the state as a whole.

It is still a hard sell without a sexy name attached to it. It would be an easier sell if both teams were ranked playing each other at the end of the year.

Agree. The only think that could derail it from going to Syracuse is if the Orange lose at Maryland the week before.

There is almost a 0% chance of ISU/Iowa being the biggest game of the week late in the year. Most conferences backload schedules for great matchups.

All that said, it's Cuse/Clemson that week. I'd be shocked if it weren't.

Agreed on everything you just stated.
