Gameday Chances for CyHawk Game

it can't help that the game is on FS1 instead of ESPN. Would ESPN really go to Ames to promote a game that nobody outside of the state cares about and isn't even airing on ESPN? Doesn't really pass the smell test to me.

I don't remember, but probably not.

I grew up in NW Iowa, and the same guy who taught comp, creative writing, and American lit. in my high school was a hard core Dutch Christian Reformer. Even came from Orange City originally. He taught American Lit according to what he thought was good material. We spent weeks on The Red Badge Of Courage and all it's "Christian symbolism" (I remember one class he spent the whole period waxing poetic about how Stephen Crane named his character Jim Conklin because the initials were JC). And how Crane used the phrase "hot plowshares" to describe a battle field, which he got from the bible. And on and on and on and on. That may be, but I don't give a hot damn.

We never read Steinbeck/Hemingway, etc because those guys were atheists and communists and probably killed babies. Luckily my brain never got washed by all the CR zombies and I read all of that stuff on my own.

Anywho, to answer your question, my teacher and I weren't on the same wavelength so although I don't remember my grades, they probably were mediocre.

My wife and I just hosted her best friend and college roommate who was originally from Sioux Center. Of course her last name starts with Vander......

Was it Vander De Boersma Plaats Meeteren Hulst De Fluit?

That’s a pretty common last name where I live?

I’m also guessing she’s a 6’3” blonde who says, “main’t” instead of “may not.”

Nope.
and definitely not 6'3". She is a blonde though but not over 5' 8". She's a hotty though.

ESPN doesn't really have a choice. Any sports network that isn't heavily involved with college football and the NFL has zero chance. Most of ESPN's original programming centers around covering the NFL & fantasy football and they only get 1 crappy Monday night game a week and one Wildcard playoff game.

They have to continue promoting college football even though FOX/FS1 seems to be gaining a lot of traction on them in the regular season with B1G (FOX already has the game of the week), Pac 12, & Big 12 games. Plus ND home games are controlled by NBC.

Even ESPN's bed partner, the SEC, has its game of the week controlled by CBS. So unless the B1G & SEC has 2 great games each or ACC has a great game going, they have to cover a game in which they may not have the TV rights.

Guess my point in this situation was the Iowa vs Iowa State game itself. Nobody from outside of Iowa will even care about the game at all, even if both teams are ranked. Add to the fact that the game is on FS1 and not ESPN, and I don't really see how or why Gameday would consider it.

Especially when ESPN could hop right over to Syracuse, New York and cover the Clemson game. You have the #1 team in the country vs a New York team....very large local market and very large national audience. On top of that the game is on ABC...an ESPN sister network.

Guess they didn't buy the Pollard hype but instead looked at recent series results as well as ISU's overall football tradition.........but I heard the game breaker was reviewing clips of the stands of their last game vs another in-state competitor.

Didn't Gameday go to Fargo, North Dakota a few years ago for a NDSU game? I get that nobody outside of Iowa cares about Iowa-Iowa ST, but if they go to Fargo than I would think Ames is a possibility.

I heard Gameday will be in Ames just so they can try the water. It's all they've been talking about behind the scenes.

They will care if both teams are ranked in the top 25 for whatever that is worth but we musn't put the cart ahead of the Cyclone. Right now our team of fine young student athletes and gentlemen are not even worthy of beating our first opponent let alone a well-run team like Iowa State. Coach Campbell is a wonderful coach and if it wasn't for Bri I would like for him to take my spot when I retire sooner rather than later.
