Future Scheduling

I have noticed in the next few years Iowa has some more FCS/MAC loaded non conference games with the exception of Wyoming and North Texas which are not traditionally known football schools. If you look into their schedules starting with 2019 and beyond they have 1-2 openings each year that will need to be filled in the coming years. With that said if you look at teams like Wisconsin or even Minnesota who are around the same prestige of Iowa, they have filled their schedules (dating back to last year) with teams like Oregon State, TCU, Alabama, and LSU. I just wanted to open this thread to see what possible home and home series you would like too see in the future between Iowa and a traditionally well-knowned power 5 football team. Personally I liked when they played a PAC-12 team in Arizona, but I would like too see a home and home or neutral site game against someone like Florida whose program has been trending like Iowa's these past few years. Would be a great defensive game!
 
I believe there are to be no more FCS schools scheduled anymore per B1G rules, I also remember Barta talking about how it's worked well scheduling MAC schools in the past so I think we will see more of that. With the talk of future neutral site games being a possibility I could see another one at solider field against NIU.
 
The only thing that can possibly happen at this point is a neutral site game. With 9 conference games, and the ISU game locked in, we can't do a home and home with anyone else, or we will lose big dollars. A neutral site game would work with the right $$ guarantee.

I just don't know how they can schedule any more P5 schools. SEC schools play 9 P5 teams a year tops (some only 8). Pac, Big12, ACC only play either 9 or 10 (TOPS) a year. No way is Iowa going to be regularly playing 11 P5 schools a year in a 12 game schedule (9 B1G, ISU +1 more), they would be the only school in the country doing so.
 
Maybe 2 neutral site games against Mizzou. One in St. Louis and one in Soldier Field.

Could do the same against Kansas St or Kansas in Kansas City.

I take great exception that you put MN on par with Iowa. NT and WY together combined for 3 wins last year. Great info for Cowherd!
 
Over the weekend, a ND alumnus asked me if I had heard that it is in the works for ND to play Iowa at Lambeau Field as part of the Shamrock Series. Any basis to it? I would be surprised.

Mizzou and KState maybe, but I'd rather see FCS schools remain on the schedule than see Kansas.
 
I thought KSU would be a great fit but Snyder will be retiring soon so maybe not so much. With Iowa recruiting Texas harder now, maybe a home/home with UT?

You'd be surprised at the disconnect in the metro Missouri areas. I would fully expect Iowa to have more fans at those sites, even if Mizzou was having a good season.

I see your point when it comes to the total amount of games against P5 schools, but are all games against P5 schools equal? Iowa could play three ISU type of P5 teams, but in terms of overall schedule strength it still wouldn't be equal to doing what Ohio State is doing in their out of conference schedule this year by going to Oklahoma, but playing two group of 5 teams to start the season. In my opinion, Iowa does have room to add another P5 home and home game while keeping the Iowa State rivalry in tact. The year Iowa plays in Ames, they could play the other P5 team at home. When Iowa State comes to Iowa City, Iowa could go on the road against a P5. Now if they do this, they would lose out on one home game a year and some revenue. But the new Big 10 TV contract would help offset the loss. The third out of conference gaem can be a cupcake preseason type of game to begin the year.
 
Wow, What are you folks doing wasting your time on here, when you should be scheduling and promoting games? Let us know when you get all the numbers and everything together, lol.............

I would agree if we went to playing ISU every other year, but if ISU is on the schedule every year, we would be completely stupid to schedule an 11th P5 school. One, it could never happen, as no other P5 school would give us a home game without getting one back, so the only way it could happen is a neutral site game (unless we drop ISU in some years).
 
I don't think it would be completely stupid. Would it be stupid if we played Texas Tech on the road instead of ND State or Miami OH? The game would be challenging for the team, but winnable. A win would look much better when it comes to national perception as opposed to Miami OH or ND State. Even a team like Texas Tech in the out of conference schedule would create some excitement among the Hawkeye fan base. This excitement could translate to even more recruiting success which in turn would create better future football teams. I'd prefer Iowa football to be a program that looks for a challenge as opposed to not looking for one.
 
And the whole Iowa State being an impossible obstacle in the way of flexible future scheduling doesn't sit well with me. I mean, imagine if Georgia used Georgia Tech as a reason they won't play another P5 team. Or the same with Florida with Florida State and Clemson with South Carolina. All of those schools are scheduling additional P5 games. In some cases those teams are scheduling powerful names like Notre Dame, Michigan, and Auburn. In other cases you're seeing solid but not spectacular P5 teams being scheduled like North Carolina and NC State. But they are seeking out variety.

You do know we have played other p5 school's besides ISU a lot over the years right? It's different now because we play a 9 game conference schedule. Before that we were doing more than most teams with scheduling p5 teams.
 
Yeah I do know that. We've had a series with both Arizona schools and a couple of series with Pittsburgh in the past dozen years or so. My posts are regarding future schedules.

You're missing the whole point of the Miami OH and ND state games are at home... creating revenue.
