Fuller Vidoe re: Meeting with Barta

i love how every player pretty much said something different about what they talked to barta about. Gatens said it happens every year and all programs and about carver and changes there, Cole was about the positivity with team, and fuller was just about the season and that he normally doesn't do it every year. Obviously there was more talked about then what they are saying and i also agree that they will not say it if they are going to leave. I mean Jake kelly lied and then left so it could happen.

i do also understand that he could ask different questions to more important players but it would have been nice to be a fly on the wall

'Plan' on coming back is the key. Circumstances change. Fuller may think that coach is gone, so he plans on coming back. He may think coach is staying, so he plans on coming back. Who knows? Aaron knows. Plans can change as well.

I think Aaron is being honest with the questions that are being asked at the time they are being asked. I will wait to see what happens.

Fuller was clearly not telling the truth entirely. His body language gives that away. I don't think he is a fan of coach Lick. I wouldn't let his words fool you.

Are you that guy from fox's hit tv show "Lie to Me"?

Seiously, how can you definitively say from his body language that he is lying?

For me the most telling comments/answers were;

1. Fuller confirmed Barta did talk to the players
2. Fuller admitted that's not typical.

The other thing that is telling to me is Fuller didn't go out of his way to offer a statement of support towards his coach either.

Stormin'

I have a lot of respect for the work you do here and I appreciate everything you do. I know you are trying to be objective, but you are reaching here. I have supported lick for most of this year but the last month was a little too much to handle.

Watching this interview with fuller was very tough to watch. He was obviously uncomfortable with the questions and as another poster said, it is not fair to him. You are correct that we all want the tough questions to be asked. But the media should be asking them to the people who are paid to answer them. Fuller's primary focus is getting an education and playing a sport that he loves while doing it. It is not his job to answer questions that he knows he is supposed to keep quiet about.

You very well could be right, Lickliter may be back, Fuller and Gatens may stay regardless. However, you also have to take into consideration that if Lickliter does go, it very well could be Gary Barta trying to diffuse a bombshell of quality players leaving. Even the Lickliter supporters have said if there are any defections of the core players Lickliter needs to go. And I wouldn't be surprised if Barta felt the same way.

Thank you for everything you do here, I just wanted to point something out logically because I know you will not take the opinions of people who are flat out in argument with you seriously (as you shouldn't)

Here's where I stand (I'm not saying I am right or wrong, just the conclusions I have made)

I don't know if Gatens will stay regardless. I do have a pretty good idea that Fuller is back regardless. Would he like a different coach? It's very possible, but I still think he stays regardless because he likes IC, he likes the team, and he's a Hawkeye. I don't have any idea if Lickliter will be back or not.

One thing is for certain, there are people in Iowa City that aren't telling the truth. That much I am sure.

Really? You think Aaron is just going sit there face to face with Rob and directly lie to him?

Wow.
BACK OFF MY MAN STORMIN...he has connections none of us have. He never says anything that isn't so...I believe what he says and appreciate his insight and connections. Just take a pill and chill we will know soon enough.

Fair enough. And I am sure that you have plenty of information that you are unable to share as well. I agree that there probably are some people in Iowa City who aren't telling the truth. I guess the question I pose is, are they just flat out lying, or are they hearing rumblings of something happening and just exaggerating a little bit?

You very well may be right about Fuller, and who knows about Gatens. The one thing that I have based my feelings on is that the players made a steep decline at the end of the season. They played like something bad was happening, like they were not happy, etc. The day after the Minnesota game I started getting the feeling that something would go down as far as a coaching change. Then Jon's segment came out on Wednesday, and by the time I went to bed Wednesday night there was just something that I felt was going down on Thursday.

I am based on gut feelings now, which is kind of disturbing.

By the way.. you shouldn't have to answer to the people who can't express their disagreements with you in a mature fashion.

So people always want journalists to ask the tough questions, yet when they do it's none of their business?

So that's how it works... I gotcha.

I've gotta think that if Barta was concerned about this getting out, he would have coached the players that he talked to on how to deal with and deflect difficult questions. They clearly aren't trying to hide anything. If you don't ask the question, you never know the answer.

Did anyone else notice that when initially asked Fuller said he would be back and then Rob asked him if the decision to keep Lick around would affect his decision and he said "I'll probably be back". I know it was minor, but given the rumors maybe he would think about leaving.

That's the second time Aaron has used the "probably" qualifier.

i noticed that too, but didn't want to say anything because he was kind of mumbling along and didn't want to take anything out of context. But apparently I wasn't the only one that heard that.

Says the guy who has some pretty damn good connections himself. ;)

Yes, there are people who are flat out lying. I am not going to point fingers, but I have been taken aback by what I was hearing from one person, then hearing something else from the mouth of someone else.

It's frustrating in that regard because, really, maybe NO ONE is telling the truth. The long and short of it is there are people involved that are trying to remove Lickliter... powerful people. Who these people are is not important. They are forcing Barta's hand and in the end we will see who has the muscles. Lickliter is not going to go down without a fight. There are sides being drawn right now in Iowa City (they've been there for a while, but now are coming to light).

It's going to come to Barta to decide what he thinks is best for his coach, for the players, for the school, for his job, and for the future of the program.

I have some ideas as to who you may be talking about.. like you said... not gonna point any fingers. Barta is in a pretty touchy spot right now and I guess we will see who comes out on top.

If Lickliter doesn't have any or a scant few powerful people lining up behind him, then this ruckus should result with a new coach.

Even if the sides are about 50/50, then it isn't good for Iowa basketball. The fact that there are sides being drawn at all in a coach's third year, to me, means there is no need for year four.

And my question is this... the people who are not happy... Are they the same people who are making the donations for the new facilities???

If they are making those kind of donations, I think you need to keep them happy. There is a lot of drama unfolding.

I'm not trying to be a drama queen (er... king) but there is a lot of stuff going on. A lot of stuff behind the scenes. A lot of stuff that peons like me don't have a hint of. There are so many moving parts to this, it's almost not worth trying to keep up with - instead just sit back and wait to see what happens. I am at that point. It's just easier.
