Well, sure, by the time Iowa was done interviewing Ferentz, Bobby Stoops had already accepted the Oklahoma job. So yeah, once Stoops was no longer an option, it was obvious Ferentz was the man.

Yes, I said this somewhat tongue-in-cheek. IIRC, Bowlsby and Allen were buddies from their UNI days and he was probably Bowlsby's first choice but Iowa boosters and fans wanted no part in that.
