Freshman Streak Continues for 4th straight year

May was on the Big 10 Fresh team??? That is shocking.

Congrats to White on a good beginning to his career.

Is there a full moon out or something? What is with all the negativity tonight calling out Hawkeye players????

His freshman year, he actually looked like he could be something pretty special someday. Evan Turner said if May could improve his ball-handling, he could be a star. Somewhere along the way, things went off the rails and he lost confidence in himself. He's not been the same ever since.

Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
A bit of both really.

Matt - played on a down team, but was talented coming in. Deserved it.
May - played on an awful, awful team. Prob wouldn't have gotten the minutes on a decent team as a true frosh. Hasn't been the same since mid-soph year.
Basabe - potential is there. Maybe doesn't the minutes on a good team. Shown sparks as to why he was on the team.
White - would have been a steady 6th/7th man on a lot of teams. Deserved it.

As Stormin' said: "A bit of both really."

It really is more about playing time than anything else. For example, Draymond Green of Michigan State saw only 11.4 minutes per game as a freshman.

This year Green was the Big Ten POY & was the only unanimous selection on the all Big Ten teams.

Green did have a teammate make the all-freshman team. Delvon Roe was on the all freshman team with Gatens. However, he had to give up basketball this year because of bad knees.

Gatens, May, Basabe & White all got more playing time at Iowa than they would have gotten at programs like Michigan State or O$U for example.
