Frans offense

Are we the only basketball team in college basketball that seems to emphasize the 15-18 ft jump shot? It is the absolute dumbest shot in all of basketball to attempt, and it seems that Fran not only allows it, but empasizes it. How many times a game do we have to watch Uthoff, Jok, Ogs, and Gesell pump fake a 3, take one dribble inside the 3 point line and hoist up a 17-19 ft jump shot? Total waste of a possession, it is the dumbest shot in all of basketball. We should either get a shot 10' and in, or take a 3. Statistically speaking you are better off shooting 30% from 3 over 20 shots than you are shooting 40% from pt range.
I was trying to find a shot chart to see the shot selections, but I couldn't find one. The motion offense that Fran choosed to run is frustrating enough.....couple that with the fact that Fran tells these kids it is ok to pull from 17 or 18 ft. all game long, it is pull your hair out frustrating. It is no wonder we don't shoot worth a damnz.

I'll be honest. The deep 2 point shots by Iowa is what I most noticed in the Iowa-ISU game. This was in the first half when it was competitive. I haven't seen enough of Iowa to know if it's a staple but it won't work if it is.

It is a staple, and it is actually coached and encouraged. You simply don't have players doing it over, and over and over again if it isn't coached. On the flip side you are familiar with ISU BB, how often do players take a jump shot just inside of the 3 point line? I'll answer for you, they NEVER take that shot, and they have much better shooters. Fred coaches his kids that this is the WORST shot you can take, so don't take that shot, and they don't.

I am a old school guy I believe in the mid-range game, but like the spread in football you gotta adapt accordingly. The game has changed you have to be able to play on the perimeter. It is basically isolation basketball with guys hanging out on the perimeter. If you do not have a big that can play on the perimeter he better be able to work the inside- out game. Spacing and ball movement are where you are getting your open looks these days not ball screens.

Fred stated that he had to break BDJ of the habit of the long 2 point shot.
