Frans first interview since being let go

Hey Fran, there may be an opening at Drake soon. If you like revolving doors West Virginia is the place I hear. Then in three years you could be coaching at Indiana.

That's actually an interesting idea. There is precedent there. Drake did hire Mr. Davis Davis after Iowa let him go, and Davis used that position to get Drake to hire his son, Keno Davis, as his replacement.

Fran may want to set up a similar package deal wherever he goes. Fran takes over as head coach for a couple of years with his son Conner the designated head coach in waiting. If it's Drake, Conner ends up living in Des Moines, which would make Caitlin very happy.

I am a little dubious when it comes to Izzo. He said something similar when Lickliter and other B1G coaches were let go.

He happens to be right in this particular case, but it feels a little disingenuous to me.

Keep an eye on Butler. Thad Matta has struggled on his return and has a history of health issues.

Trust your gut... He likes that throne he's been on and he knows Fran/Iowa wasn't any kind of threat to him. In big picture for sure Iowa isn't and only occasionally in the small picture. We've beaten them here and there but so what. They do more in March consistently it's just that simple.
 
Watching the (short) interview it's pretty clear to me we ain't ever gonna hear from any McCaffery again. I'd imagine he took every piece of anything in his house or office with an I or a Tigerhawk on it and sent it to an incinerator over the weekend.

I was talking more the "resources" part, not the careful what you wish for part. The Iowa basketball program is broken no doubt, I just feel that Fran wasn't the main cause of it. It wouldn't matter if they kept Fran or not, until they get more money to pay players we're cooked. Next year is probably going to be worse.

Once they whiffed on DeVries that's going to scare a lot of other coaches off, and if we think DeVries isn't texting people in his coaching circle "LOL" when he found out how much salary he was dealing with we'd be idiots.

I think it's best to expect a losing record for the foreseeable future and be pleasantly surprised with a .575 record.

Had Fran been back everyone pretty much assumed we were losing Freeman & Harding anyway right? Obviously Sandfort and Thelwell graduated. Dix hasn't gotten in portal yet so he's a question mark at this point. But regardless that's a lot of holes needing to be fixed and it woulda remained to be seen how Fran was gonna be able to do that.

It's both good and bad that whomever this new coach ends up being is gonna have a blown up program to work with. It'll be all his. I'd say Pryce Sandfort could be talked into coming back and Koch would be worth bringing back to see what he can turn into. Beyond that guys like Dembele, Trayore and Tadjo are a dime a dozen to find replacements for hopefully upgrades for in the portal but who freaking knows..

To expect a better yr season next yr with all this uncertainty would be a wild bet. Year one will probably be rough so buckle up folks.
