Frank Kaminsky = What Adam Woodbury could be?

The freshman Woodbury was better than the freshman Kaminsky, and the sophomore Woodbury was better than the sophomore Kaminsky. Why wouldn't it be logical to assume the junior Woodbury will be better than the junior Kaminsky was. Kaminsky came on his junior year, and I hope Woodbury will do the same for Iowa. Kaminsky is a good player, but he isn't Gods gift to basketball. Next year Iowa is going to be closer to if not as athletic as Wisconsin, and it makes a big difference. I haven't heard anyone saying Kaminsky is going to be a first round draft pick if he enters the draft this year.

Well my guess is that kaminsky didn't put up #'s last year because he was behind Berggren and basically didn't play much. I believe he also got injured at one point.

Kaminsky like Jon said have a lot of "euro" in his game. Adam has more "junkyard dog" in his game

The better comparison to Kaminsky is Uthoff

Everytime I watch Frank Kaminsky play.. I feel like he's what Adam Woodbury could be and/or will be. Solid outside shot and good inside moves.

Am I the only one that sees this?
Don't set yourself up for failure waiting for woodbury to turn into Kaminsky. Woodbury took 0 threes and probably never will in his career. Stop your comparison there.

Come on now, we all know that Woody is the second coming of Bill Walton. However, because of the refs, he will never be as good as Kaminsky.

The Hawks should be eighteen & oh in the conference next year, but the refs will cost Iowa at least eight loses!

Thanks for adding nothing except snark to this conversation.

i think people should focus on what Woody IS or can be and not what he isn't. He will NEVER be a Frank Kaminsky type player because that isn't his skill set but he can be extremely solid around the hoop and a great rebounder.

i think Woodbury can be a Paul Davis (former MSU) type of guy. If memory serves Davis was limited athletically but he was a very solid rebounder and great close to the basket. His body/size/speed seem very similar to Woody. Checkout former film on Davis

Paul Davis is Mary Lou Retton compared to Adam Woodbury's Pinocchio.

I don't like the comparison game. Woodbury brings his own set of skills and he's still a work in progress. Big guys often grow tremendously their last couple years in school. I thought Woodbury improved his game over last year quite a bit. He showed some offensive potential this year, defended better, was able to stay out of foul trouble mostly, and was a better free throw shooter. If he improves at this rate each of his next two years, the Hawks will be fun to watch.

If I was going to compare Kaminsky with an Iowa player it would be Meyer. I think he is going to be pretty good next year.

It is possible, but it doesn't necessarily work this way. And Kaminsky has become rather vital to Wisky.

I know it doesn't necessarily work that way, but Woodbury has improved a lot from his freshman year. He seems like a guy that will work hard to develop his game. I'm not worried about Woodbury as a player, and he should be fun to watch. Meyer will probably be a big piece to the Iowa puzzle next year.

Woodbury seems to have the will to excel and the confidence of his coach, but may not have the tools. This was exemplified when he went up for the open thunder-dunk against Tennessee and just laid it in. He seemed like he wanted to do something great, but just couldn't quite deliver it.

I've always been a little amused at the hand wringing re: Woodbury - I think it's probably fulled by the fact we all desperately want to see him succeed, but you have to give the kid time to develop his game.

If nothing else, I think a lot of people need to re-frame their expectations. Often, I think the fan tendency when they are asked to visualize a great post player immediately go to the "power post" archetype - the guy that rips away an ORB from 3 defenders and then proceeds to thunder dunk on their heads. While that is a perfectly valid/useful type of post, that's never going to be Adam. I think you need to visualize the kinds of things a Nowitzki does and start to see Adam more in that context. I'm *not* saying Adam is the next Nowitzki (honestly, Nowitzki is probably a once in a generation type player as far as the skillset he brings to the post) I'm just saying people need to appreciate how dynamic an offense can be when it has a versatile 5 out there - a guy that can pass, step out and hit a jumper, flash some finesse post moves, etc - it opens up tons of secondary things in your offense, but this type of player takes TIME to develop. Let's see what he looks like next year.

well woodbury does have a decent jump shot... but not quite the range as kaminsky..

woodbury handles the ball okay for a big man... but not like FK does.

Woodbury plays straight up.... no bend
Woody can score in the post against a plodding defender (like Stokes of Tennessee) who's feet seem to be stuck to the basketball floor like they were in quicksand. He can't take it strong to the basket, however, against a small forward who's guarding... Don't want to really rag on Woody, (and am still holding out hope) but he has to improve, IMO, 100 percent to be as good as Kaminsky.

Hope Kaminsky goes early to the pros. After the Final Four...

I agree. I wonder if the thought ever crossed his mind before the NCAA run. If he's a 1st rounder he really should go if he has aspirations of playing in the NBA. He's one of those guys that could come back and see his stock drop IMO.

Who is this Kaminsky guy. He is a fair to good player, but the pros are not likely wishing he was on their team. I'm not trying to knock him, but I doubt he will do that good against the Kentucky freshmen front line. Woodbury won't be a guy that's going to change the course of basketball either, but he has the ability to become better than Kaminsky. There are lots of guys that have the ability to become better than Kaminsky.
