Franco Harris Fired over Paterno Support

While I don't agree with what Harris said, to fire him for it is ridiculous.
The PC crowd strikes again.

That company has the right to protect their interests. If Franco's job was to get people into the casino, his public and controversial comments may adversely affect the Casino.

I know some will be "outraged" but the Casino wasn't commenting on anyone's guilt or innocence, they're just protecting their interests.

As Jon noted, Penn State is toxic right now...radioactive even.

If it's true that they are taking down his statue, this just proves that they know for a fact he covered this up and that it is all going to come out. There is no way they do this midseason unless they know they need to completely distance themselves from him.

I was kind of thinking the same thing. Taking down the statue immediately is a pretty bold move. PSU officials must really be anticipating the worst...

agreed.

The Immaculate Termination

He said, ``I feel that the board made a bad decision in letting Joe Paterno go. I'm very disappointed in their decision. I thought they showed no courage, not to back someone who really needed it at the time. They were saying the football program under Joe was at fault.’’

THEY showed no courage? Surely you mean Joe showed no courage right Franco? Joe is the football program and yes he was at fault. What a bonehead.

Franco Harris fired by Meadows for his support of Joe Paterno

Another example of how toxic Penn State is, and will be.

Also, Paterno statue is coming down over Thanksgiving per PSU professors telling that to students (via Gregg Doyel's twitter post)

Taking down a statute, firing Paterno, holding candlelight vigils, those are all tiny little band-aids on a gaping wound. The Board can let facts trickle out some more if they'd like, but there's a good chance it will get uglier, not better. There's a nuclear option for them, that might give them the only chance to truly repair their image - cancel the football program for a year or two. But, that will never happen.

Disagree totally. If the guy was a factory worker sure, let him keep his job, no big deal. The reality is he was the public face of a company, and if his employer felt like his statements would put the company in a negative light, or would limit Franco's effectiveness in that capacity then firing him was the absolute right choice.

If you are a Penn State fan how do you with good conscience yell "We are, Penn State" with pride?

Have the Penn State trolls been back since this all went down? Most of them seemed like good people.

wonder if they are going to throw shoes at said statue when it is down??

I am kind of guessing we will not get a replay of the Saddam statutue coming down. There may be some hitting with shoes, but probably aimed at the ones taking the statue down. The PSU students will undoubtedly make a$$es of themselves yet again.

Well played EP.
