Hopefully the fire will translate to somehow getting the student section closer to the action!

Iowa is too dumb for that. They think a little extra money from some corps and some stuffy old guys is gonna make or break them. They don't understand atmosphere. Look where they moved the students in Kinnick.

When I went there... sat at the 40 yd line for football and sat at the FT line for basketball. Both places had a lot more atmosphere.

It's possible that they recognize that the students haven't cared about basketball in forever and they don't want empty seats in the front rows of Carver because it would look horrible and make less people want to go than already do.

From Day 1, Fran changed the culture of Iowa basketball. IIRC he mentioned something like not just winning the Big Ten, but challenging for a NC, can't remember his exact words.
He has the mindset that the Iowa program can be truly great and he believes 100% in his players and they do the same for him. Otherwise, being outmanned in most games they have won, the wouldn't. Most prediceted an 0-7 start to the BIG season and looking on paper it seemed a real possibility, but being 3-3 nobody could have predicted that.
Testament to mindset that Fran and staff are instilling.

If he gets some bigs who can still run plus alot of Marble and White-types who can run, press and fast break look out.

But just like Mr. Davis's press the hawks will need to shoot well.

Some of the losses this year the hawks have shot around 25% which totally blows your press and setting up your dee.

Kinda out of left field, but for those of you old enough, and if you have seen Woodbury play, how does he compare to Michael Payne?

If you get time to re-watch this past game (or any other ones), you will see a different attitude from all angles. Really remarkable. I know winning helps, but have to appreciate what the program is turning into. They are making you care about Iowa BB again.

This.

I'm only a casual basketball fan (football is king in this household) and completely lost interest in Iowa basketball about midway through the Alford era. Lickliter did nothing to energize the fan base, so I remained apathetic. I've been to ONE game at Carver since 2003...and Fran has me seriously thinking about purchasing season tickets before he's even completed his second full year at the helm.

Also LOVE that he didn't go politically correct and apologize for the chair slam at MSU. With the exception of Brands and the wrestling program, Iowa sports in general could use a little more fire--Fran is very much the proverbial "breath of fresh air" that many Hawk fans have been waiting for.

you know whats so refreshing about fran is his straight forward honest answer and doesnt beat around bushes. i can relate to him easily as well as everyone else.

And he does that every night, win or lose. Very nice to hear, you can actually learn something about the team after every game.

Total agreement.

Fran is certainly in the process of performing an exorcism on this program, that's for sure.

3-3 out of the first six games that most of us expected would probably be all L's - absolutely fantastic. This team has still taken its lumps as I expected, but Iowa basketball is finally starting to compete again and not be the laughing stock of the league. It feels like those days are past.

Indeed, you can definitely feel the culture changing. The windows are open, and the stench is starting to clear..

It's going to be all kinds of fun once Fran has the roster filled out with his recruits.

I'm starting to believe again, and it feels great.

Just matched our last year's win total with at least 13 games to go. I'd say Coach McCaffery knows what he's doing. It's fun to watch Iowa play again!

Awesome stat! Hawks are playing .500 ball in the toughest conference in the country. All while probably playing the most difficult stretch of their schedule (w/out looking anyway).

The students don't need to be close in football, they aren't going to be any louder than the rest of the crouwd and they leave half the time.

Basketball is where it makes a difference but like someone above said, that will have to come later because right now they are't there at all.
