Fran gets 1 more year

For me to keep my faith in him. Only thing Ive been "MAD" about again is having to watch ISU every March the last 3 years while the Hawks are sitting at home. Don't get me wrong, I understand the hardships he's going through right now but it sickens me to see stupid "congrats" to ISU threads on this board when the Hawks should be playing on CBS now but Fran couldn't focus his team for the last month. Look where Fred has ISU in the same amount of time Fran has been here. I can only hope that Barta gives him the boot if 1.) We don't finish in the top 4 of the B1G 2.) If we don't get to atleast the Sweet 16 next year 3.) If we go 0-2 against MSU and Wisky again. For me Fran is on his full count, he better get a hit or he's out. - Sincerely P'Od Hawkeye fan . Does any fan base have more whiners than ours? We made the NCAA, and while the end of the season did not end like anyone would have liked, next will be better. As for the OP...have fun over on the other site where you truly belong.

I have no idea if there was some kind of personal crap going on but there was certainly things the coach could have attempted to change.

X & O was clearly part of the problem. Teams adjusted to stop Iowas transition and Fran did not counter by getting White out of the 3 spot when teams made us play half court game.

Look at the teams left in the tourney, they don't look like Iowa on offense. They move the ball around the perimeter via the pass rather than dribble, they get the ball in the post consistently. Iowas half court scheme is really lacking.

Yup, Fran made terrible decision after terrible decision this year.

He was the BIGGEST part of the problem IMHO. Bad at X's and O's. Bad at rotations.

Recruiting? Bad

Sorry, not a lot to be excited about really unless Jok or Uthoff really take off and become absolute studs along with Uhl.

I'm not mad about ISU winning, Im more upset about how our team finished and I felt like Fran didn't handle it well. Probably should have posted this Tuesday, but seeing all these "Congrats ISU" post set me off. I have full support for the Hawks but this last month for me has made me pretty angry. I hope we can turn things around because even though we made the tourney (kinda) this team when playing focused could beat almost anyone but Fran couldn't get the ship back on course

Try hot yoga.

I was very disappointed that Fran didn't give Jok more PT, that he pulled players when they had a hot hand, and I didn't like his rotations. I was also very disappointed that he let the team get away from him the last 7 or 8 games of the year.

That said, Fran makes $1 million per year, has turned around every program he has worked in, and I'm making fries at McDonalds. Go Hawks!!!

I'm very disappointed as well how our season unfolded. I don't like ISU, but I have to give it to them. They are doing the things that I thought we might able to do this time of year (or least more than what we seen). I hope our players are watching and mentally preparing how they will step up their game like ISU has done this year.
You're hoping for a lot, then. Some of them were down at the Vine eating wings and, those who could, drinking adult beverages.

There is nothing Fran coulda done. It wasn't an X&O problem. It was deep deep locker room issues that woulda derailed any team. Graduation is gonna cure some of those problems.

Next year will be better.
Have any real information for us, or just speculation? I'm very interested in what you've heard.

Well that explains allot. Only at Iowa will you see players eating wings and drinking during the off season.

Absolutely right. They should be training for 8-10 hrs a day since the season is only 8 months away! I mean, other teams are playing games right now! That's how you build championships! NO REST!!!! Who's with me!?!?
Whooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaahhhhh!!!!!

Those lazy bastards better have at least done some sprints in the parking lot when they left.

I'm more curious if they all sat together or half of them sat at a table at the other end of the restaurant.

What's there to be upset about? It's Iowa basketball. Get over it! Except for maybe a couple of seasons, this is what Iowa basketball has been for over thirty years. No hope of seriously challenging for the regular season championship or making a deep run in the tournament. It's been this way for almost two generations.

For the overwhelming majority of the last thirty plus years, Iowa has been nothing more than a middle of the pack or worse Big Ten team. Unless you are in your late forties or older, this is what Iowa basket always has been

That right there is the problem. "Iowa Basketball" the past 15 years has grown extremely tiresome, with lots of underachieving, heartbreak, or flat-out mediocrity. I can certainly identify with the OP's frustration, especially since I grew up in the 80's and 90's experiencing much better times. The program is better than this.

But maybe ISU has some hidden advantage that Iowa doesn't have? Sorry, but a first-time head coach came in and took our in-state rival (who was not in great shape as a program when he was hired) and consistently bring in good talent with the same in-state recruiting disadvantages that Iowa has, get them to the NCAA Tournament 3 of his first 4 years, and if they can beat a 7 seed on Friday (possible, yes?) they will be playing for a trip to the Final Four next weekend.. Then I don't see Iowa's current program as "the best we can expect" with ISU doing so much more. Go ahead and label me a troll or not a "true" fan.. I don't give a rip.

None of this should be mistaken for my wanting Fran to be fired.. Not the case at all, or even close. I think he's done a terrific job of getting the program back to playing respectable basketball, but let's just say that I think the jury is still out on whether he can get us past this point. Meaning NIT runs, play-in game losses, etc. Or can Fran make us more like ISU or Wisconsin? Gonna be interesting to see the next few years how things go. But fire Fran? Nonsense.
