Fran does not want Marble at the Point next year

Not a pure point guard:

This is not a shot at you Spank but it is pretty obvious Marble is not a true PG that Fran likes to have run his system. Marble can get the job done but he is not great. He does a great job protecting the ball but he just does not seem to play with a true PG pace/feel. I don't know why so many people couldn't understand that with Gessel and Clemmons coming in Marble was no longer going to be playing major minutes at the PG spot. There might be some games he plays there due to foul trouble/injury but Fran wants a true PG.
If RDM does develop a decent, consistent 3-pt shot he will be a nightmare for opposing defenders. He will be able to post up smaller guards and a big man on him out at the perimeter will have their hands full as he can drive by. I think RDM slashing as a 2 or 3 will be awesome as he can hang and make shots in the lane.
if marble develops his 3pt shot so it is more consistent he will have what most wings dont. ability to go to the rim, shoot the 3 and pull up for the midrange (a lost art). he will be the x-factor to see if he can fill matt's shoes as the primary scorer. i think he will and we will have much better compliments to him than matt ever had.
3 point shot would be nice, but any jump shot would be just as good imo. I can't recall many times Marble shot without dribbling.

I'm sorry, but I really hate the term "true point guard". Just a pet peeve of mine.

I get your frustration but its kind off like what the Supreme Court once said about pornography: you can't define it but you know when you see it.

i think he has a very good dibble drive and jumpshot, the 3 opens this more in his favor, with his height and White's height and reach both will be solid on the outside defense in shooting 3's. as it will mean a higher arc on the shot, with Woodbury or Olaseni being backstops in the paint on the drive by to the rim, it just will be hard for opponents to get to. like it has been in the past

Dev improved so much from year 1 to year 2. He played point purely out of need, and for the most part did a fine job. The kid is going to help us win a lot of games the next years, his ceiling is pretty high.

Thank you Fran!! This year it was obvious we needed a pg and C. Next year SG will be the question. Step it up Josh!

Josh may start the year at the 2, but I do not think he keeps the spot. I think Clemmons is way under-rated. some of those covering Michigan bball & Sexton HS say he is the best scorer on their team - better than Valentine (MSU), who is a Mr. Basketball candidate. Big words. Words us Hawk fans love to hear!

I think Clemmons can take the point. Gessel could easliy slide over to the 2. Roy at the 3. AW at the 4. With Meyer/AW2/Basabe fighting for minutes at the 5. Yes, Basabe. I think the guy is going to pull thru and make the leap we all thought he would do this year. Either way, I see some talent starting at the 5.

It will depend on who develops and matures to the competition quickest. Fran will probably not want a lot of freshman on the floor at once. But if they can play, they will get the minutes...

I don't think McCaffrey cares if he is playing 5 freshman if the team is winning. Where would we be without White this season? A case can easily be made that next to Gatens, White has been our most consistent performer all season (along with Marble until the past few games). We don't have a surplus of talent returning next season and I look for the freshman to get major minutes.

I hope you are right about Clemmons but we beat North Carolina for Woodbury, The center spot is his to lose, and I'm sure he will get every opportunity to get a starting spot. I love Baasbe when he is engaged and his motor is running at full speed, he is athletic and a great shot blocker but he was way too inconsistent this year and may be the odd man out, hope I'm wrong.

Isn't this an awesome problem to have? It seemed just like yesterday Iowa had like 7 players on scholarship (or so it seemed) and it was a no brainer who was going to start. Now Iowa is going to have 2, sometimes 3, different players to come in and compete for playing time. Next season is going to be fun to see how this all plays out.

I agree with SirJamAlot on Woodbury (and Gessell). The only think McCaffrey had to offer these two highly prized recruits was playing time. It would take someone making a huge splash, an injury or dreadful play for these two not to be in the starting lineup.

As far as Basabe, it's up to him. It certainly appears he thought he could get by with his physical abilities and didn't work much on skill development. McCaffrey talked a lot about how great he performed in practice, but that certainly did not translate to games this year. He just doesn't look comfortable on the block and seems incredibly indecisive....like he doesn't know what to do or when to do it.
