Fran Commented on Marble from Creighton scrimmage

I was just at the Polk County Winter Sports Luncheon, and Fran started talking about Devyn. He said he couldn't get specific on the Creighton scrimmage, but said it was close and Iowa played a lot better than last year's game. He said that Devyn Marble was the leading scorer that day and that he was arguably the best player on the floor that day. He added "that is saying something, considering there was an All American on Creighton's team."
 
Nice to be excited about something involving Iowa athletics. I am ready to put a fork in the football season and move on to hoops!
 
I'm well aware that we played a team that resembled a HS squad but watching the game furthered my VERY strong confidence that Gesell is going to be a special player immediately. The game comes to him very easily and you can tell that things move slowly for him. The future is very bright for this team and especially at the PG position.
 
I really like Fran, but if he were a TacoBell franchise owner, he would swear that his employees served the best food on the planet--not just the best pre-cooked, lukewarm, triglyceride-spiking, polymer-based Mexican fast food--but the best food on the entire planet.

Agree...and this program needed someone just like him to pick em up off the mat...sort of like Hayden did.
 
I'm surprised Fran found 10 minutes apart from fielding calls from interested NBA scouts to address the I-Club.
 
during the pregame interview on the radio yesterday Fran brought up the scrimmage.

He said that Marble lead Iowa in scoring during the scrimmage. He said Marble sometimes needs to be more selfish and needs to look for his shot more. Fran said he could see Marble playing the PG and Gesell playing the shooting guard at times if need be this year. He still feels Marble is one of his best PG's.

i think that would be fun to watch those two working together and tearing up an offense at the guard positions. Would definatly open up things for the wings with Woody catching the ball down low and dishing it off to a cutter or throwing it out to Gesell or Marble for an open three pointer. My only reservations stem from several comments about Marble being held down on offense when running the point and that the two or three spot being a more natural position for him. Damn, Fran has more options than Berney Maddoff........ But in Fran's case they are for real.

Wow. And I bet Gabe was the bestest rebounder on the court? Not to mention Oglesby was the best shooter? After awhile, the hyperbole stuff is ridiculous.
 
Is my memory faulty, or wasn't Marble looking a lot better towards the end of the last season? I think it's perfectly possible that RDM could have been the best player on the court that day. Not that hard to believe.
