Former Texas RB says Greg Davis is going to Iowa

How good of a recruiter is Greg Davis? Anybody know what his track record is like?

He may not even recruit. Kirk is on record as not liking his coordinators recruiting. Preferring to have the position coaches doing that. The recruiters can close, but they aren't actively on the recruiting trail.

He's a good recruiter, but then again, it's Texas trying to lure Texas' best players to Texas...so who knows.

As for his track record...he's in his 60's so he's lost a step...or 5 on his 40 time and he is horrible at the longer distances...:D

He's going to recruit plenty - Kirk was saying that in a perfect world, he wouldnt want them spending their time doing that.

KOK recruited heavily and the only reason Norm didn't was because of his health.

It would be nice to tap back into that TX pipeline.

Yeah I know, I've read that too, but part of me wonders if a big part of this hire (if true, of course) is due to maybe what it could do for us in recruiting? He (Davis) has to have some pretty good connections I would imagine. Not all of the talent down there can go to Texas. Some damn good kids don't get offered to Texas that we could still use.

I liked this quote from the article:

"He’s a passionate coach,â€￾ Whitaker said. “He’s one that he loves to get after it. If he sees anything that the defense may give up or allow, he’s going to attack that. So you can see that he’s very aggressive in his play calls and he knows that a play will work. "
======
If a player says that the coach can go after the other teams weaknesses I like the potential in that.

I am exaggerating some but I remember how many times, like in the 2010 wisky game, where the hawks defense would get a turnover or stop, get good field position and the the offense would run plays right into the opponents strenghts and do nothing.

I hope we can go for the jugular.

The guys at the Gazette should really start getting royalties from all the Iowa blogs.
If I were one of 'em I'd start charging, cuz no one else does any work.

Yeah, but at the same time, KOK recruited a lot, and recruited well. compared to the position coaches, I have no idea, but he did do a lot of in-homes.

yeah, Ferentz and the offense tried not to score on purpose. you know, all ball control......they attacked the others strengths.....and avoided their weaknesses at all costs....

Every year the Houston Chronicle publishes their top 100 high school players and where they commit. For the last few years we have not had any and the Clones routinely get 1 or 2. That has to stop. There is just so much talent down here and we should be getting more than the Clones.

who are those top 100 players out of texas who rountinely commit to the clownz?

What I like about Davis is the fact that he has been under the ultimate pressure in the game every college team wants to get to and has come out the winner. He gets pressure and he gets what it takes to make the right call at the right time. I think KF has considered this as he is wanting to see how far he can get with this new group of coaches.

Or tap some Texass....

ISU plays against several team in Texas on an annual basis, so it's not shocking that they have a recruiting edge there against us. I'm willing to bet that we sign a lot more kids from Ohio, Pennsylvania, and maybe even Illinois than the Clones.

IIRC, O'Keefe was partly responsible for recruiting in Ohio. not sure if Davis or anyone else on the staff has connections there, which worries me from a recruiting standpoint.
