Why would you think Rudock would do any better than JVB? You might say "Last year they moved AJ Derby to LB because he was making good progress" or something like that but really AJ could help the team more if he was not the back up QB. They said Jake Rudock was making good progress but what some people don't understand is that he was making this progress with different plays, and footwork, and different reads. Both QB's (JVB and Rudock) have had about the same amount of time to learn the new playbook and practice the footwork, who would you expect would do better?
My guess would be a 5th year senior would learn it more easily. If you put Rudock in now like a lot of people are calling for and he struggles like JVB is doing right now what is that going to do to his confidence? Chances are that his confidence wouldn't be best and that could mess him up for the years to come.
It would be a good choice to let Rudock sit on the bench and watch and observe, it will give him more time to get a better understanding of the playbook and give him more practice of the footwork. I'm sure if Rudock had everything down such as the playbook, the footwork, and his reads, that he would be given a chance.
It just makes more sense to go with a 5th year senior over a RS freshman when they have had the same time to learn the new offense. Why put Rudock in when he isn't 100% ready when you don't have to? You don't want him to struggle like JVB is because i'm sure they are having the same problems.
If anything I would be asking the JUCO QB that we have, he would make more sense than a RS freshman that hasn't played a down in college football, he (The JUCO QB) has played two years of football and was sucessful. They went and got the JUCO QB because they thought he would fit the offense not just to fill a spot... It would even be better to have people asking for Winkie before Rudock.
With all this being said you should just support JVB, he is the best choice at QB for iowa football. It is not easy to be learning something for so long and to switch it up, footwork is muscle memory for the most part and if one thing is off when you are playing QB you will not do the best you can. There is still a lot of practice left and i'm confident that he will improve. There is five games (guaranteed) left with a possiblitiy of six to seven. We should just support our QB. The coaches obivously think he is the best choice and I support the coaches, they have been coaching for many years at the highest level of college football and some NFL experience.
(A lot more coaching experience than most of the people asking for Rudock)
