Here is why an Iowa football fan should never get too high (emotionally of course... what were you thinking?) and never get to low..

Kirk Ferentz era win totals:

1999: W
2000: WWW
2001: WWWWWWW
2002: WWWWWWWWWWW
2003: WWWWWWWWWW
2004: WWWWWWWWWW
2005: WWWWWWW
2006: WWWWWW
2007: WWWWWW
2008: WWWWWWWWW
2009: WWWWWWWWWWW
2010: WWWWWWWW
2011: WWWWWWW
2012: WWWW
2013: ?????????????????

Do you see a pattern?

The sky is not falling, Ferentz didn't suddenly forget how to coach. Iowa doesn't have the recruiting base to sustain 10+ win seasons. The way I see it is that most years we have the talent of a 7-8 win team. Some years we underperform, others we exceed expectations. The keys are upperclassmen leadership, health, and of course... luck. We're out to surprise some people this year.

On Iowa.:cool:

And, wouldn't the visual result be:

2013: W

If true, symmetry sucks sometimes.

Well if we really suck then yeah W or WW could happen but I think it is the upswing.

I think KF wants to power run, play tough defense and special teams again, and use the passing game as an extension of the running game.

I think we will have most of those things

This thread may make sense if that last year on this W graph went up. However it doesnt right now the graph is going down so this thread is pointless right now.

And you would be demonstrably wrong. They have completely re-tooled the offense to an up-tempo, spread passing attack with the zone read option. The power run that O'Keefe used to run is DEAD.
I hope you are right as I was thinking another four win season with extremely conservative play calling would be about all the fan base would be able to stand. I think we will see a combination some where in between a spread offense with maybe one back backfield just to keep the defense honest. I can't foresee a completely wide open style of football with the ball getting flung in the air every where. That would be fun to watch but completely not KF's style. We have the horses in the back field and should see them utilized one way or another. Now I have not see any of the practices so I haven't see how the offense has been setting up. I've heard a lot of talk about the no huddles but that doesn't always mean a spread offense. The idea is to catch them off balance and to wear down the defense but cutting out substitutions.

At any rate I am ready for some football as this seems like one of the longest off seasons I have ever experienced. The basketball team helped some of the time to go by but why does or seem to me like forever since our last game? Maybe it was the lack of a bowl game but it just seems like two years instead of one.

I'm going against the general feeling and going to stick with an optimistic view and predict the offense and defense will both surprise this season and give us nine wins after we win the Capital One bowl game. We are due for one of those flying under the radar type of years that KF pulls out of his hat. I hope I am right but have no shame in admitting if I am wrong.

Let the games begin!!!!!! GO HAWKS GO!!!

Whar CAAR?

Here I am.

Yep, the pattern calls for 7 or fewer wins this year, which includes the bowl game. Looking at the 2 deeps makes me feel the pattern will hold.

Another reason the pattern could hold is a heat index for the first game of about 100 degrees and everyone wearing black jerseys.

The home team gets the choice of jersey color. Some home teams opt for the White to deal with the heat. You know the Hawks won't do this, which might show an impact if the game is close in the 4th quarter.

But the best thing is that someone actually did what I have been saying all along with KF and that is that you need to consider his entire tenure to find an actual pattern and the guy still came up with the wrong conclusion.

Man this sort of thinking irks me. So ferentz built the program up through health and luck? No, he did it through hard work, savvy recruiting and stellar player development. Our downfall recently is not due to bad luck. Our recruiting and player development flat out sucked over a few year span. Some coordinators were held on to way way too long and I also believe ferentz got a little lazy. And while ferentz was taking his foot off the gas, guys like bielama, Fitzgerald, pelini and obrien were operating their programs at full throttle.

Iowa still has good players. The struggles coorelate to attrition. 1st wr, then a bizzarre string at RB, then Kaz dessimated dl development and depth.

One should look at the win total per year based on draft choices. Iowa will likely have 5-7 go this year.

Iowa should win 8 games a year at the minimum avg. Every five years I could see a dip to one season of 6 to 7 wins based on injuries and luck. The non con schedule is usually a joke and Iowa should be 4 and 0 every time but we all know how that usually works out. If KF can't finish 4 & 4 in the Big Ten every year at a minimum then his ship has sailed.

i think he is a great coach and and even better person but if he can't win 8 games a year on the minimum then he isn't worth the money he is accepting. It makes me sick to my stomach to type this but I think PR could average 8 wins a year at Iowa with the resources and history he would have on his side.

Enough of me being negative, Lets go Hawks and bring the passion back to Kinnick and Iowa Football.

If true, symmetry sucks sometimes.

First thing I said when I saw those W's was: "Looks like boobs."

Unless this is our Total Recall season and Iowa Football has three boobs. Then we're on the third boob.

That's what I'm going with.

I was thinking Puerto Rican transvestite with two fake boobs and a giant straight thing at the bottom. NTTIAWWT.

2010 = 3 less W's than 09
2011 = 1 less W than 10
2012 = 3 less W's than 11

Thus, 2013 = 1 less W than 12.
