Flyover getting looked into?

Yeah, seems like they may have been flying lower than the FAA allows. Apparently it was the lead pilot's last flight before retiring so maybe he just wanted to go out with some flash.

It was one of the cooler things I have ever seen. Wish I could relive it again, for the first time, as they say

I was there. I agree. It was awesome. I've witnessed air shows and various stadium fly-overs, but I've never seen anything like this. Incredible.

But I have to admit I mentioned to my wife it was unbelievable that they allowed such a low fly-over of 70,000 people in a stadium and a residential area. Still, I have to agree with Jon. Let's do it again... :)

Now if only the Iowa offense were willing to take such risks, perhaps we could have finished that OSU game with the same sort of exhilaration as we started it with...

doesn't the government have other things to waste our money on?

Considering the pilots have to log a certain amount of flight hours anyway, I don't think doing a flyover is a waste of money. It's getting spent whether they do a flyover or not.

I told the guys I was with someone had to get grief about that. They said they had clearance and everything but, damn, they looked to be 50 feet above the scoreboard. It was the coolest thing I've seen in years but I'd have had to change my shorts, had I been in the press box.

Are you kidding me? This was not unusual. Check out the other videos on youtube for flyovers. Nothing special besides the fact that this one was at Kinnick. Not taking anything away from the flyovers as every one of them has a special place in my heart, as does Kinnick, but this one was no different to an outsider.
It seems that only in Iowa are small celebrities considered big celebrities, and military jet flyovers too low. This is a mentality problem of our state... from both Iowans and outsiders.

I think Olympia was referring to the internal investigation being a waste of time/money.

Yes, I too think that is what Olympia meant... but it did get me thinking. You know that feeling in your head and heart after you see a flyby? You know the pride that swells, you know the confidence of security that breeds? You know the memories of prior service or thoughts of sons and daughters currently serving in the armed forces. You know that being surrounded by 85k fans and instantly feeling as alone as a POW. The vast range of emotions from screams of excitement to tears occur with every flyby... to me this is damn near priceless.

It's not like these guys were trainees from JimBob's Flight School. They knew what they were doing, and I never felt anyone was at risk, even in the slightest. I hope they don't get any reprimands for this. They gave the crowd what we wanted, and they delivered. It was awesome.

Shada... Look at the flyby for TCU at Navy game. It appears the pilot rolls 90 degrees to avoid a pole! Nobody says anything about that one. It isn't like some mountain in Iowa is going to suddenly appear! Again... they might be looking at it due to protocol, but I seriously doubt any trouble will come out of it.
