Flash Flanagan Open

I read that some of the Hawkeyes might be wrestling in the Flash Flanagan Open this weekend. I couldn't find any info on the internet. Anybody have any info/updates? Thanks in advance.

Taken from Andy Hamilton's twitter..

Five unattached champs today for Iowa at the Flash Open in Dubuque (Marion, J. Ballweg, Nick Moore, Evans and Telford).

Nick Moore won 7-2 over Micheal Kelly in the finals at 165. Earlier this year both were at 157, Moore's been at 165 for that last few meets, I believe this is Kelly's first meet at 165. Either way looked like a good day for Moore, had a few first period falls before the finals.

I find it interesting both move up to 65, after watching st john today I am convinced he cant be at 157 for long he is a massive 157, and if moore and kelly both stay up at 65 (presumably to make the weight cut easier and allow them to focus on their technique this year) it will be interesting to see how 65 shakes out next year since their will be an opening with Jansen graduating.

Wow what a great day for the guys. I was impressed with Evans 4 falls in the first period one was 48 seconds. If I am correct he has the most falls on the team this year and is red shirting.

All his falls were against D-III guys, while impressive, I wouldn't take alot from this performance as far as him being a pinner as a starter.

I stand corrected, Walt Gilmor has the most pins on the team. As for Evans I thought he pinned kids from Missouri at an open as well as a few other opens and one kid a Midlands, I didnt know they were DIII.

I agree it doesn't make Evans or Gilmor a starter. Maybe they should move to DIII based on your analogy and thier success so far.

Could St John eventually go 174? (jr, sr year)

I don't know about 74 but he certainly is a massive 157. The fact that moore and kelly have both moved up to 165, tells me that DSJ plans on staying down at 57 obviously for this year and most likely next year. If DSJ planned on moving up to 65 you would think one or both of moore and kelly would stay down to keep their weight low so next year when st john moves up they can step in at 57. But just speculation and assumption.

Also I am interested in what happens with Evans. Last year evans was the top 189 lber in the nation so either he was undersized then or oversized now. But it would be nice to see evans lofthouse and gambrall spread out between 74 84 and 97. I don't know if they involves gambrall moving up or Evans making a chad beatty-like jump but it would be a shame to lose someone the quality of evans to the bench or transfer.

Agreed on Evans, however what if Lofthouse and or Evans (if possible) move down to 65? Lofthouse has already competed at Fila's at 63 so it can be done. If not I'm afraid to see Evans transfer out as well but may be a real possiblity.

I don't see Evans having to transfer; if anything he's probably going to be taking a spot from this year's set of starters.

I would rather see Evans get up to 197 as he has a small lower body and some room to grow. Gambrall isn't very big at 184 and just needs to get stronger. 174 is the only weight for E Lofthouse. I don't know that Evans can get up there next year but he does need to get bigger. Hopefully Wagner will get to 197 next year and transfer will appear as well.

I don't see Evans ever wrestling 197, I think thats wishful thinking. He is just not big enough to compete at that weight.
