Flagrant on Woodbury?

It did appear that he came back to White and apologized.

Maybe it's just me, but (1) I doubt it was sincere and (2) I don't see it happening if the flagrant wasn't called. IMO he knew exactly what he was doing and whether thats how he plays or he got caught in the moment, it was cheap.

The only reason fatty clocked White was because he tried to help him up a minute earlier and White slapped his hand away.

Was the flagarant foul before or after the big guy tried to help White up off the floor and White slapped his hand away? FM wasn't too impressed with that.

yes that call was horrible - fran was on Adams case for that but he should apologize after he watches the film - it was nothing.

Really that play should have been reviewed.

But he was making a play on the ball. The only reason why he got called was because how big he is.

I don't think that's entirely true. White slapping his hand away just 30 seconds earlier likely had something to do with it. Not the play, but the call. The timing gave it the appearance of being intentional, especially considering how hard White went down and the crowd reaction (which was also fueled by the perception created by White's hand slap).

But it wasn't a flagrant, IMO. Just a foul from a very large man.

The big dude's fore arm clearly hit white in the face. Play on the ball or not, the new rules state that this contact above the shoulders is flagrant.

Woodys foul was cheap. Ubel tripped and woody had his hand on him. But called when it was, dead ball, it too was flagrant.

The no-call that got me was on the Alemedia screen at the top of the key. He wasn't close to set and gave a little hip check on the chaser.

I love the attitude Woody & Whitey play with but they also play on the edge in terms of talking smack and throwing elbows much like McCabe last season. The refs will only put up with so much "chippiness" before they send a reminder how well it will be tolerated. I went back and re-watched the game once I got home and would note the following based on recording time of DVR:

1:52:53 - White dribbles into traffic and ends up on the deck. Almeida offers a hand to help him up and White pushed it away and then turns to Marble for a hand up. BTN then cuts to a shot of Fran who yells out to White and says "No" as he knows what just happened was unsportsmanlike.

1:50:11 - Best view in terms of angle which shows Almeida made contact to the head of White as he attempt to give a hard foul and keep White from getting an easy bucket. Almeida did give him a bit of a stare and a smile so the flagrant call was definitely warranted.

1:49:39 - After the free throws by White play resumes and it appeared Almeida did offer a quick apology on the way by White.

1:47:09 - Almeida looked to get away with a slight moving screen as he leans out to pick May who is sent to the floor, however, I did not see anything malicious but would say it could have easily been whistled simply because Almeida as moving his feet at the time of contact.

1:18:14 / 1:17:36 - Woodbury and Ubel get tangled up but as they separate Woodbury's left arm extends back and to the left as he clears him out which is why he gets whistled.

The flagrant on fatty was by rule correct. Whether intentional or not he made substantial contact to white's face. That's exactly what a F1 is.

Inadvertent whistle prior to the Nebby shot clock violation.

make it 3 really bad calls. Just before the Woody foul... Nebby's big stumbled, fell down and bounced off the floor. No traveling call. The replay left no question that it was.

With respect to White's chipiness, when he swatted the guys hand away who was offering to help him up... cameras caught Fran on the sidelines. He was yelling "Whitey...whitey... " then said "NO" when White looked over.

Back and to the left? Were you watching the Zapruder film? I like the refusal of the hand up from an opponent.

it wasn't even a foul let alone a flagrant... they were imagining things worried about the game getting out of hand or something..

basically they watch too much tv...

Fatty's screen at the top of the key was the best one of the bunch. He wasn't anywhere close to being set at all then slammed his body into May I think. May goes flying and not a single ref found an issue with it. Welcome to B1G rugby!!
