FL CB Jordan Oladokun Decommits

P5 football scholarships right now are analogous to toilet paper (6 months ago that would mean "worth nothing", currently that means "worth a lot and in short supply"). These recruits are rushing out to get their toilet paper. Some of them are going to find out they have a supply of Great Value bum wad stacked up next to the throne, and all of a sudden they see a huge stack of Charmin on their next grocery trip. The Great Value doesn't look quite so good any more.

Now I don't really think Iowa is a Great Value level program, but the fact of the matter is many of these young men will feel pressured by the situation to rush into decisions before they are fully aware of their options. As a program, you take the committment, but you know you need to work extra hard to make it stick, and if it doesn't stick, you keep grinding and don't burn any bridges.

STORY LINK

I reached out to the kid to find out what the coaches said to him when he de-committed and if he was still considering Iowa and if the Hawkeyes would continue recruiting him.

I will add it to the story if he responds.

Odds Keagan Johnson ends up on the defensive side of the ball? Seems a little Micah Hydish.

He's versatile enough to do either but historically we've been shorter on talent at WR so I hope he ends up there. Interesting to note that he is now our 5th recruit labeled as "athlete" by 247 out of our 14 recruits. I don't ever recall having this high of a ratio. I think these 5 give the coaches a lot of options at different positions and I trust them to find the best fit.

I think he'd be good there. Right now, he envisions himself on offense but he still has another year in high school.

Can’t blame the kid for decommitting. He probably just rushed himself. Once he takes a visit with Parks and Young, we have a good chance of getting all three. No worries.

Like previous posters said, gentle gloves on remarks about these high-schoolers. Let them be certain they want to be a Hawk and don't damm them if they waver. Better to have guys 100% committed than uncertain. I got to believe Iowa asks a little more than other schools when it comes to hard work and commitment.

I agree with all those who say to give the kid some space. He's, what, 17 years old. I say it's good for Iowa that they made such an impression on him that he was inclined to sign up. Don't put it past other schools, particularly down south, to do their best to undermine Iowa. Why go there, it's cold, your 1500 miles from home, your family will never see you play. That can be effective, particularly when you have a one more year of high school to go, and everyone is giving you his or her opinion. Maybe he'll come back. His choice, I respect it.

At least he didn't drag the coaches along keeping a scholarship tied up while secretly visiting or talking to other schools. Both sides can now move along, Iowa can go after someone else. If the 2 wind up back together then great. He's being honest and upfront, I respect that. This is a HUGE decision for a teenager.

I would bet he will end up closer to home. That still seems to me to be the strongest variable in recruiting. Yes, I know there are exceptions.

Well, apparently someone is "speeding up" his recruitment again. He's already announced the date for his new decision - 7/29.

7/29 was his original date before he pulled the trigger for Iowa.

I don't see him ending up here.

Nor do I.

We have to cut him some slack as he's only 17, but he's coming off a bit immature and impulsive in this process. With rare exceptions, those kinds of kids generally don't do well in our program anyway.

Agree. I'm not close to the situation and only viewing it from a distance, but he doesn't appear to be a good fit from my vantage point.

+1. I'm going to go ahead and say what we're all thinking - "we didn't need this guy and frankly I didn't want him anyway."

I wonder if he needed to talk to Juan Harris about the commitment process and after discussing things with him decided 7/29 was soon enough to make another decision.
